While she did have a nice list of things she disliked about the position, the most sympathetic of the lot probably was the time spent on non medical things.

Lim: Mostly that I don’t have as much time actually doing medical stuff. ::She huffed:: I spend it doing things like paperwork or shift schedules.

A soft exhalation of amusement emitted from the Captain and his hands shrugged.

Adea: That’s fair. I have two secrets for you that might… ::he waggled that forefinger:: sweeten the role for you.

Noemi perked up a bit and nodded.

Adea: The first is delegation, delegation, delegation. Pick some officers, and give them some of the busy work you don’t like doing. If you don’t want to do shift rotations, give them to an assistant. I never liked doing stocktakes, so I made Kyle do them.

Interesting. She actually liked checking inventory, or maybe she found it reassuring that she knew that Sickbay was stocked up in the case of an emergency.

Adea: Groom them for success, give them experience. Make sure that when you’re gone, they can carry on, it’s what I tried to do with Nusin, they -

The captain stopped. Clearly whoever Nusin had been, Adea cared for them and they were no longer around, gone but not forgotten.

Lim: You don’t have to talk about them if you don’t want to.

Adea: ::swallowing, and recovering an easier tone:: The other is, save the juicy stuff for yourself. You’re literally in charge, so make it yours. If you want to do research, make sure that’s what you’re assigned.

All valid suggestions. She could probably pass off the scheduling and be greedy about assignments, but that brought up another reason she disliked being the CMO

Lim: But there are CMO duties that I can’t delegate, like the management parts.

Adea: Response

Lim: I don’t have a problem with being in charge in general. I’ve had to do that for medical issues before. It’s just, I dunno, different when I’m having to give orders to someone like Lieutenant Letek or Lieutenant Dai.

Giving orders to Dai was an even stranger feeling given she had been Noemi’s senior in rank and length of service  before her promotion.
