What Gnai had planned as a quiet escape from the ship, all alone in the lab with its plant samples and equipment, had become just slightly less quiet… but it wasn’t exactly complaining. Genkos was a friend, and getting to chat with him was always a good thing in Gnai’s book.
Adea: ~ And you’re settling in okay? ~
That was a question that Gnai wasn’t exactly sure how to answer. It wasn’t that it wasn’t settling in fine… but it felt awkward still amongst the rest of the crew at times. New people, new places… it probably would have been like this aboard the Kitty Hawk as well when it was posted there if there weren’t already far more pressing issues as it came aboard.
Gnai: ~ Yes, yes, more or less fine. ~
Adea: ~ I see… ~
Gnai: ~ It’s just… less chaotic in here, compared to the rest of the ship. After a mission, I ::singular:: need a moment away from everything. ~
It was far easier to adjust in a more controlled version of this new setting, Gnai had been noticing, with less needing to deal with questions about itself or its time aboard other ships.
Adea: ~ Understandable… we all need our little things to ground us. When I was a CMO, I would take time out to practice little operations, you know, just to keep my hand in. ~
Practicing on holograms… Gnai presumed.
Gnai: ~ That makes sense… ~
Adea: ~ Science for science’s sake is a cornerstone of Starfleet… and also evil geniuses in comic books. ~
An odd comparison for Genkos to make, as Gnai had never really read any of these comics, but it had a vague idea of the concept… enough old-school holodeck adventures and one got the general gist of “mad science” and “evil geniuses”.
Gnai: ~ I ::singular:: have heard many times before that when one takes on more responsibility, one somewhat loses the opportunity to be directly involved… Sounds like that was the case for you. ~
Adea: ~ Response ~
Gnai: ~ That’s why I ::singular:: am... content to remain here. ~ ::gesturing to the science lab around them:: ~ Just being a scientist is enough… I ::singular:: do not have ambitions for anything more than that. ~
Too much ambition, and it could find itself torn away from what it had joined Starfleet for, Gnai suspected.
