Williams had decided to transfer, and there was very little Drex could say or do that would change that decision. He would miss the man as much as the officer, though he could understand, at least in part, why Williams had chosen to leave.
But the transfer was not only a personal matter.
With his departure, the position of Chief Security Officer would stand vacant, leaving behind far more than an empty office.
Drex: What’s your plan for the section now? None of our current officers have half his experience.
Adea: ::darkly:: None of our current officers have shown such bad judgment, either.
Drex: That’s true. ::He inhaled deeply, considering it for a moment before continuing. :: At least we’re still on shore leave, so there’s time to adjust.
Genkos nodded, then his hands spread wide on the desk.
Adea: This is true. I think the current department will pull together until we can name a replacement, but I’m not in too much of a rush.
Drex gave a small, acknowledging nod. The logic held; the department was capable enough to maintain itself in the short term. The Science Department did the same for months after Alora moved to the Thor.
Drex: Aye, Sir.
Adea: If you could put together a short list of possible replacements by the end of the week, please, that would be most appreciated. ::he stood, both hands leaning heavily on the desk:: Now, in the meantime, I believe I am due on the bridge. If you’ll excuse me?
Drex: Of course, Captain. ::He rose smoothly from his chair a beat later:: I’ll have it ready for your review.
The Denobulan waited just long enough for the exchange of courtesies to settle, then gave a brief nod of acknowledgement before turning toward the door. It opened with a soft chime, and he stepped out into the corridor, letting the ready room doors slide shut behind him before the captain had fully moved to leave his desk.
