((Federation Headquarters Ballroom, Bolarus IX))
In a quiet moment when Kettick and Elor had stepped away from their table, Braya stared hard into her drink. Already she was losing count of how many glasses she’d finished. A fuzzy loss of focus crept into the periphery of her vision, and the buzz of a few too many hummed inside her head. A bandaid solution, a Human may have called it. Seemed she was turning to liquor quite a lot as of late, helping consign her thoughts to oblivion. Temporarily.
Doing it so publicly, however, had its own entanglements. It was hard not to wonder when someone might catch on to a deeper problem.
A set of footfalls approached from behind, and she grimaced, half expecting it to be another infernal Counselor.
Williams: Hey there… you are hard to find these days.
It was worse. Far, far worse.
With her face darkening like a storm, Bray’s grip on her glass tightened. Lifting it, shooting its contents down in one burning gulp, she turned to Alex and wiped her mouth with the back of her gloved hand.
Braya: ::Scowling:: Ain’t that for the best? Word is you asked for transfer.
It wasn’t just a rumour. Everyone knew full well that Williams was leaving. There had even been a farewell party for him. A party that Braya had deliberately neglected to attend. Poor Zogi had been left rather wide-eyed and dazzled when she shouted in the corridor at the audacity of the invitation.
As her eyes burned holes in him, she caught the briefest glimpse of her Captain doing just the same.
Williams: I did, I don’t think I have anything left to do here after what happened.
Braya: Ya’ don’t? Huh? That’s it?
Her brows lifted, more in accusation than curiosity. With her gloom focused completely upon him, she waved a hand, a server depositing another drink into it as they passed, which she wolfed in one swallow. Then, with a push out from her table, Braya stood, her black look aimed at him with growing fury.
Williams: I don’t. It was my choice to wait with the report… In fact, I didn’t even have time to write it so close after the mission. I was going to ask the captain something and then suddenly this came up. I told him… and resigned my position. All in less than a minute.
Braya: ::Incensed:: I could’a got away with it, y’know. Without showin’ ya. But I did. Not for havin’ to, but b’cause I TRUSTED ya’. B’cause I thought we ‘ad somethin’. Ya’ sure made it seem like we did, b’neath my ship.
Williams: Response? -
Cutting in before her could finish his thought, Braya’s words erupted like a volcano, fiery and mercurial. So loud that everyone nearby had no choice but to hear.
Braya: Then, not only do ya’ try givin’ me the runaround an’ spill y’er guts while I’m in a bloody ‘ospital. But y’er runnin’ off like a frightened tika cat. An’ as if that weren't enough, y’er tellin’ me. Me! That there ain’t nothin’ here left for ya’?! Well ya’ got that wrong, Alex. There’s somethin’ left. An’ ‘ere it is.
With a jerk of her hand, Braya threw her drink in his face, slammed the glass down on the table, and stormed off.
