((Science Deck - Deck 14 - USS Eagle-A))

Thankfully, Gnai had not had to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous… Alomians in the brig for very long. Having to stand around, unsure of what to say, as the others tried to coax information (and cooperation) out of the saboteur had made Gnai feel as if it was stuck outside its tank again, struggling to contribute. But now, new orders had come down from on high, and it was bound for the science labs, updated on the various happenings of the rest of the crew and situation on the moon (skimmed, just briefly), energized again to actually do something that it was good at.

With all the haste it could gather, it had made its way to the main lab on deck 14, which it had perused but only briefly before. Now was as good a time as any, it supposed, to properly become acquainted with the space… and, it seemed, its new Chief.

Gnai: Hello, sir. ::saluting with its suit’s arm:: This is pleased to make your acquaintance… even if it’s not truly the most pleasant of circumstances.

Stapledon: Response

It moved to the central console of the room, tapping the screen to bring up some of the new data that the teams on the moon had brought back… for all its griping about being stuck on the moon and having a horrible time, with the added context of the chaos that the other away team went through…

Gnai: What… what happened to your team?

Stapledon: Response

The others who had been ordered here trickled in as they talked. Gnai recognized the good Alomian doctor from their tame-in-comparison expedition on the moon’s surface, and another humanoid Starfleet officer – a Cmdr. Falt, if it recalled the crew listing that it had skimmed before boarding.

The door opened a final time, and Lt. Cmdr. Drex stepped in. He’d been a science officer before this change in posting, hadn’t he? That was a good sign, putting such a science-heavy team together to finally crack this oyster of a problem.

Drex: Glad to see you all. ::He gave a slight nod toward Iroka.:: Doctor, it’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m grateful you’ve chosen to continue helping us.

Still somewhat distracted by the information on the console, it bobbed in response to the greeting from Lt. Cmdr. Drex.

Iroka/Stapledon/Falt: Responses

Drex: Well, while the Captain works to determine whether the main factions of the Alomian population can agree on a common future for the system, we are in charge of two things. ::He stepped toward the nearest console and activated the holographic projector.:: First, we must stop the autoreplicating drones. We cannot afford to have them running wild and uncontrolled. Second, if the Alomians decide to proceed, we will need to shut down the AI.

The fact that shutting down this AI hinged on the Alomians agreeing with them was a disheartening prospect for Gnai. Surely not all of the Alomians would agree to letting the AI run rampant and endanger their home, and they would suffer the consequences all the same if the rest couldn’t be convinced…

Gnai: Wait… did the drones come from the moon?

It had been far too distracted with the saboteur and dreading going to the shuttlebay alone when the drones had been released to have noticed what was going on.

Iroka/Stapledon/Falt/Drex: Responses

Well that was just great, wasn’t it. They didn’t have enough problems at this point, truly. Gnai could feel its excitement over trying to figure out what had caused this moon to be targeted, and this strange genesis-like device to function with its odd presentation of terraforming effects (random adult animals was not something that it recalled from the Genesis-deviced Resolution) slowly draining as the Real Reason They Had All Been Brought Here Today was revealed.

Gnai: There’s no way to communicate with the drones and shut them down remotely…?

That seemed like a massive oversight to Gnai’s perspective, but it wasn’t an engineer.

Iroka/Stapledon/Falt/Drex: Response

A shame… but at least some good ideas were being thrown about, giving it time to think of any of its own ideas for getting rid of this Problem. It was a very science-heavy team, after all.

Gnai: Could they be transported away… and simply not be rematerialized?

Again, not an engineer, but to Gnai’s understanding of the transporter… that should work, right? Maybe? Any engineering classes it had taken at the Academy had been focused on other things than transporter systems, and its experiences with Frontier Day had not made it any the more interested in studying them further…

Iroka/Stapledon/Falt/Drex: Response
