((Subterannean Levels, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Alomia))
The most difficult part of their mission was behind them. They had found Captain Adea and freed him from captivity. There was only one last task left for them to complete on this planet: escape.
Elor had run back to the surveillance station with Jackson, hoping that from there they would be able to access the building's systems and deactivate the shield. The Bajoran fervently hoped that Jackson would be able to do everything from here and that they would not have to search the building for other access points.
Letek: Let me know if I can help.
Tanner: Right. It would be helpful if you could show me what button you pushed to open the doors.
With a critical eye on the unconscious Alomians, Elor stood next to Jackson and pointed to the corresponding buttons.
Letek: I activated a few of them until I unlocked the right door. I don't know which rooms the others belonged to, but they all seemed to be for the locks.
Having gotten what he wanted from the button press, Jackson set about his work. He would not have the time to use the Almonian hand to dart across the console to do what he needed, so he needed to remove that requirement from the terminal.
Elor flinched in alarm when he noticed the movement of one of the Alomians out of the corner of his eye. He had expected it, yet it still surprised him.
With his tricorder in hand, he examined the Alomian.
Tanner: So, just how much longer do we think we have before they wake up?
Letek: ::Looking at his tricorder:: I don't want to rush you, but it could happen any moment now. The effects of the gas are almost gone.
Tanner: Work faster you say. On it.
While Jackson was busy gaining access, Elor tried to think of what he could do if the security guards woke up now. There was still the dampening field, which rendered their phasers ineffective, and he didn't have any more of the gas with him.
His gaze fell on the weapon on the guard's belt, and with great hesitation, he reached for it and unholstered it. He wouldn't use it, but maybe it would be enough to intimidate them?
Tanner: If you could tell me when the console comes to life.
To distract himself from the possibility that he might have to shoot someone, he focused his attention back on the console, which still showed no signs of life. But whatever Jackson did seemed to work, because suddenly the lights came on.
Letek: Jackson! Looks like you got in.
The engineer sat up and began his actual work directly at the console.
Tanner: Looks like shield control there ::The large domed output tended to be a giveaway.:: Let's turn that off and get out of there.
As soon as he had deactivated the shield, the two young men disappeared, leaving behind the guards, who were coming closer and closer to waking up.
They hurried back to the others, where it was also clear that the gas was losing its effect. The movements of the unconscious people were becoming more and more obvious.
Letek: Tanner has deactivated the shield. We can finally leave.
Adea / Epoma(?) / Falt: Response?
Tanner: ::Looking at his tricorder.:: We are good to go.
Well, in the sense that they had taken the shield down anyway. Whether or not the Eagle was good to beam them up wasn’t entirely something Jackson knew about.
Braya: ::Breathless:: Captain. That’s local law breachin’ the buildin’. An’ they ain’t gonna be ‘appy t’see any o’ us.
Tanner: =/\= Tanner to the Eagle =/\=
A very long pause of what was likely a couple of seconds elapsed. Why wasn't the ship responding? Elor's impatience grew with every passing second.
Footsteps could be heard outside. They were still far away and seemed somewhat erratic, like someone who hadn't quite found their balance yet, but they were getting louder.
Letek: I'm afraid we're about to have company.
Adea / Epoma(?) / Falt / Braya: Response?
Jackson was going to answer, but he was stopped by the low grumble that came from the nearby Alomian.
Tanner: We are most definitely out of time.
Eagle/Drex/Anyone: =/\= Response =/\=
Elor's fingers tightened around the weapon in his hand.
oO Please don't... please don't... I don't want to hurt anyone... Oo
Adea / Epoma(?) / Falt / Braya: Response?
The first footsteps in the hallway were joined by others. Shouts rang out. He couldn't understand what they were saying, but they sounded angry and not far away. Any moment now, they would reach the team and then there would be a fight.
For a moment, Elor was tempted to send a religious prayer to heaven, but then the room blurred before his eyes as the Eagle finally caught up with them and rescued them from the situation.
