((Temporary Offices, Deck 118, Deep Space 224))
Genkos winced as he remembered the effect the nebula had on him; turning him into quite the vicious petaQ. He shook his head softly, as if dispelling the thoughts, before turning to Drex, who might be better suited to explaining what had happened to the mission prior to the Nebula.
Adea: Oh, I had read the report, but this seems quite a bit deeper than that.
Stapledon: The usual culprits like viruses, bacteria, were ruled out?
The Denobulan shook his head.
Drex: The planet was used, may still be used, for all we know, by some unknown culture as a kind of... zoo. They kept people from different eras of Earth’s history in captivity. We rescued more than five hundred individuals. Some from the nineteenth century, others far older, Neolithic, even.
Genkos raised an eyebrow - it was a very different experience hearing it aloud rather than just reading a report. He could hear the emotion and weight of the experience in Drex’s voice, and he gave the man a sympathetic look.
Adea: Tragic.
Stapledon: Oh I see.
Drex: Their technology drained the entire ship of power, leaving us dead in the water. But Commander Falt had a brilliant idea: feed fossil fuels directly into the thrusters, and burn our way out. He lifted us just high enough to break free of their grasp.
Genkos nodded as he listened to Drex’s explanations of what had happened - it was a most ingenious response to the problem; he was most impressed with Falt’s head under pressure.
Adea: That’s very clever.
Stapledon: Something like that...
Drex: I’m just glad we got those people out.
Genkos inclined his head slowly acknowledging what Drex had said, but let the man continue. As the memory resurfaced, Drex’s voice tapered off, the last words thinning into silence. His gaze drifted, and Genkos could tell, even without using his telepathic powers, that he was not looking at the wall, but at some imagined memory. When he spoke again, his tone was much quieter, more contained.
Drex: Those first days after... We were packed so tightly aboard the Eagle you could barely move. ::He exhaled slowly, shaking his head once:: I just hope they all manage to settle into this century without too much difficulty.
Genkos cleared his throat a moment, feeling the lump there shift and dispel.
Adea: It’s not easy, being people out of time. We should know.
Stapledon: Response
Drex: ::clearing his throat, pulling himself out of the memory:: Speaking of settling into this century... I completed my report on the Gatwa anomaly, well, as complete as it can be, considering we lost all the data collected by the Eagle. Should I expect a full debrief with Command, or will DS224 handle the review?
Genkos looked at Drex for a moment, his gaze momentarily hard. Command had debriefed him on their suspicions, but like all Q-related incidents, they wanted to keep their cards close to their chest, and so he was expected to carry out (or delegate) debriefings with all the relevant officers.
Adea: Your debrief will be handled by myself, and you will pass that down to your underlings. ::he smiled momentarily:: Comes with the job.
Stapledon: Response
Drex: Did the scientists on Proust offer any interesting explanations or do we justify the strange anomaly as a cruel joke by CloQ?
Genkos’ smile slipped, and he shrugged. He was of the opinion that the Proust was purely a manifestation of CloQ’s evil will, although he had very little evidence to support his theory. The surviving staff members had all disappeared into the bureaucracy of Starfleet once they’d arrived on DS224, but the command officers he’d spoken to seemed to have no knowledge of them.
Adea: The jury’s out on that one. There’s no record of Proust Station, nor of any of their staff. Whether they were merely playthings of CloQ, or whether they’re part of some mythical El-Aurian deepstate, I couldn’t say.
Drex / Stapledon: Response
Adea: We don’t have anything to prove they contacted us, not since the Eagle disappeared, although where a Q is involved, Command have learned to take things on faith… the final frontier.
Drex / Stapledon: Response

"You know, I'm really easy to get along with most of the time, but I don't like bullies and I don't like threats, and I don't like you, Culluh. You can try and stop us from getting to the truth but I promise you that if you do I will respond with all the 'unique technologies' at my command." - Kathryn Janeway
