((Anyone interested in a round of golf?))
((Holodeck 13 - Deep Space 224))
The rustling of the wind in the foliage of the trees could be heard across the entire area.
Elor looked up at the sky, but quickly realized that this was a mistake. The artificial sun in the blue sky made him wince.
Squinting, he lowered his gaze again and needed a moment before the surroundings around him took on reasonable contours again.
In the distance, he could hear the waves crashing against the cliffs below the course, and all in all, it was a truly wonderful day for a round of golf.
Whoever had created this simulation had really paid attention to the many small details.
The club, a 9-iron, felt heavy in his hand as he got into position. With his legs slightly apart and crouching slightly, he took one swing... two... three before actually hitting the ball.
Shielding his eyes from the bright light with his hand, he watched as the ball flew high through the air toward the third hole.
It landed a good distance from the hole and remained lying on the grass.
Elor was clearly out of practice. The last time he had played was with Edward during his college days, and unfortunately, he had never managed to establish a regular routine in the sport.
Now, after a good year, he was far from being in the habit. He certainly wouldn't be improving his handicap in this game.
The Bajoran picked up his golf bag and walked over to where the little ball had landed.
He set the bag down a short distance away and returned to his position. He paused for a moment, concentrating on the light breeze ruffling his hair and the direction it was blowing, before preparing to take another swing.
He took one swing... then a second... and the moment he struck, a door appeared not far from him and opened, revealing a familiar face.
Of course, he missed the shot.
The person from behind the holodeck approached him and the door closed again before disappearing into thin air.
Letek: Good morning.
Anyone: Response?
He rested the club on the grass and leaned on it.
Letek: I used to enjoy playing golf during my academy days, but I haven't had a chance to play since I was assigned to the Eagle.
Anyone: Response?
Letek: Have I exceeded my holodeck time, or did you get the wrong door?
Anyone: Response?
