((Federation Headquarters Ballroom, Bolarus IX))

Remmilians did not "hate". The emotional extremes of other species were mostly unknown to them, except on a purely intellectual level. As such, Kettick had two main emotional settings: "I am perfectly content with this" and "I serenely consider resorting to war crimes to deal with this". Award ceremony dress codes were in the first category.
Just barely.

He'd had a peek at the pictures of the venue that were available online; the ballroom was designed in the Bolian stye, which meant that it gave you the impression of being underwater, without the sensation of drowning and the crushing pressure. Unless you were prone to social anxiety, in which case you could enjoy the full experience. In any case, he could unfortunately confirm that his usual "workwear chic" style would stand out in the room like a plasma coupling sealant stain on a set of dress whites. Which were apparently out of the question as well.

Juuust barely.

In the end, he beamed down directly into the atrium wearing a rather classical black wraparound tunic and fitted pants, with the only touches of colour being a silver lining along the jacket closure and collar, and his Starfleet communicator worn as a brooch.

His impeccably shined dress shoes crossed the dancefloor, each step on the mirror-polished surface giving a faint squeak that he hoped was outside the others' auditory ranges. Just as well that he had no intention of dancing anyway.

He quickly secured a non-alcoholic drink, some snacks, and finally a table on the second row from the edge of the dancefloor, with a good view on the podium (and its very original Eagle-themed floral arrangement).

He had been sitting for a couple of minutes at most when a duo greeted him.

Letek: Commander Kettick. Do you mind if we sit with you?

The Remmilian nodded politely in greeting at the Bajoran, who looked almost extravagant in a formal tuxedo. Next to him, mister Braya had opted for a more rugged look, and the Engineer flicked his facial feelers at her in sympathy.

Kettick: By all means, Lieutenant. As long as you do not intend to drag me on the dancefloor.

Braya/Letek: Response

The insectoid chittered something that approximated laughter.

Kettick: What is the saying? Misery shared is misery... :: a beat :: no, that would be "squared", which is not encouraging at all.

Braya/Letek: Response

Kettick: Quite. I suspect that between us, the new addition to our crew would have to pull double duty. I only wish we had a diplomat onboard before that whole Alomian mess.
