((Makeshift Captain’s Office, The USS Eagle Outpost, ABOUT A WEEK LATER))
Alex looked around in the makeshift captain’s office. It was much more different than their old briefing room on the Eagle. No holographic images, no luxury chairs, no steaming pot of real coffee or tea.
What wasn’t different was that there was a new mission. One that might get them all home, back to their own place in their own time. To get there, they needed to break into a museum. Putting them on the wrong side of the law for the first time in Alex career. But, the ends justified the means, or so was the general consensus. And so… here they were planning a heist. A real one, not just some fun holodeck simulation.
Adea: Commander Falt… Tomas, you will take ch’Clex and Tanner to the museum’s security complex. Our intelligence suggests the museum’s security is entirely automated, so you’re to go there and turn it off. I doubt it’ll be as easy as there being a big switch saying “off” but hey, we live in hope.
Falt: Response
Adea: Commander Kettick, I’m afraid I have the least fun job for you. You’ll be taking Braya, Lim and Drex, and stealing the Bounty. For those of you who don’t know, it’s the ship that James T. Kirk used to go back in time with the crew of the Enterprise. The basic idea here is the same. We need you to go and get her ready to fly, then beam us all into the Bounty’s hold, before taking off.
Alex knew a few things about the Bounty and its history. But if he remembered well, the odds of them making it were slim, at best.
Kettick: Response
Adea: That’s where Cayden comes in. Commander Adyr, you’ll be taking Favon and Letek. The Bounty’s cloaking device was transferred to the Enterprise during Frontier Day. I need you to go and get it so that nobody can find us once we’re off the museum. Last thing we need is for any remaining Starfleet ships to stop us.
Alex wasn’t sure what “other federation ships was about” . Far as he knew they hadn’t made contact with any. Or someone was keeping him out of the loop for some reason. He decided to ask for it later, but not in front of the entire staff.
Adyr: Aye, sir. We'll take care of it.
Adea: As for myself, I’ll be taking Commander Williams and Ensign Buccheri. We’re going to take the entirety of the rest of the crew, and we’re going on a tour of the museum. Station security might be automated, but there’s still a skeleton staff. We’ll keep them busy asking as many questions and queries as we can. ::he half stood:: Right, you have your orders. Assemble your teams, prepare yourselves and we meet at Adyr’s ship at 0800. Sleep well folks, for this is the last night we sleep in the 31st Century. Go, in good faith.
Alex was surprised with his assignment. As a chief security he had assumed that if they wanted to do a successful break-in he would be either in charge of taking out security, or doing the actual steal itself. Now, he was supposed to be a distraction for the security systems. He had a feeling he could do a lot more, but playing the innocent visitor could still lead to a more critical role, or a backup option later. So, he decided to keep these thoughts to himself for now and see what he could do from the position that he was given.
He decided to talk to those who had been to the museum and gather all the intel he could. Then, come up with a plan on how he and the others could attract as much attention as they could to keep security busy during their visit.
(( A few minutes later in the captains bunk))
Alex had taken a seat and wondered if he should drop the question about why he was not assigned tot he security team now, or wait fort he end of their new briefing. Since he wasn’t alone, and Bucherri was there too, he decided to wait.
Adea: You two will be part of Operation: Fancypants. We are to distract and divert the museum’s staff so that they don’t notice any of the other teams. We are to be as annoying and frustrating as we possibly can, to keep their attention on us. Touch things, ask ridiculous questions, generally be the most irritating you that you can be.
oO So… distraction… I get the idea. Oo
Buccheri: Can do, sir.
Williams: I can be a pain in the but, if that’s what you want me to be sir, but I cannot help but point out that I could also be very useful in dealing with the security forces from their control room.
Adea: Please read nothing into the fact that I called you two to do this. The rest of the senior staff are on other missions, but we’ll be leading as much of the crew as we can get onboard.
Buccheri: No offense taken, sir. I'm a good little ensign.
Williams: Well, if we want to cause havoc, we might have to do something about that.
Buccheri: Anything we're not allowed to do in the context of uh, "distracting" museum staff, sir...?
Williams: We could simply set of a fire alarm, if they have any. Or try to steal something as far from the Bounty as possible. A sit-in, the options are almost limitless.
Adea: Response
Buccheri: Response?
Williams: If I were to oversee security, I would hate to have more than one crisis at a time. As I would have to spread my forces while keeping an eye open for a potential third crisis, which is the real one. So the more chaos we create, the further spread their attention will be.
Adea: Response
Buccheri: Response?
Williams: A fire, that would get a lot of attention. We can see how fast they respond and how.
As Alex gave it more thought he even had a better idea. But it would take one more day in preparation
Williams: In fact, we could postpone our break-in for one more day. Giving us one day to explore the place better and create a small distraction. All to learn how they will respond. Giving is more intel to work with for the real thing.
Adea: Response
Buccheri: Response?
