(( Eagle Outpost, Forsaken ball of dust ))

While Drex was trying to find a safer place in the desert, Kettick was already thinking bigger. He was trying to understand what had caused that explosion. More importantly, he wanted to know how to stop a crystal from breaking, because he needed to get off this planet. It was ambitious. Maybe. But if anyone could do that, it would be the Chief Engineer. He had the skills, the stubborn precision, and the confidence to stand in front of the Captain and argue that the risks were actually worth it.

Drex: Did you already bring this to Adyr and Adea?

Kettick: I left a memo of intent on a PADD in the command lean-to, but I was waiting for their green light before starting anything that would waste resources - as things are, everything I built can be disassembled and recycled easily enough. That being said, if you want to review the process and weigh in with your expertise, I would welcome the help.

Drex: It will take more than the three of us. PADDs alone are not enough; we need a second set of eyes to check every calculation.

The Remmilian remained quiet, albeit grateful. Mostly because he needed some time to ponder what Drex meant about calculations.

Tanner: Well, I’m certainly interested to see what we can pull together. I’m sure the Captain won’t mind us learning a bit more about what has left us stranded here.

Kettick: I must say that I find the hypothesis that all the dilithium in the galaxy just decided to spontaneously "go boom" in spite of all the law of physics rather unsatisfactory.

Drex: Or maybe it was not every crystal in the galaxy. Maybe it was just ours. We’re here because a Q stepped in, so the normal rules might not apply here. We do not actually know what happened anywhere else. ::He lowered his voice, just a little:: We do not even know for sure if this is really the future… or if this planet is even real in the way we think it is.

Tanner: Well, I know we started with a Gym idea and we’ve gone in a few directions, but I’d be keen to take a look at this makeshift refinery.  ::Slight wince.::

The insectoid waved a spindly hand in a dismissive gesture.

Kettick: It's more like I was waiting for the Captain's decision and decided to spend some idle time on a hobby project, but I don't mind investing it in something more useful. Especially if you can help me improve the design.

Drex: If we can take something that started as distraction and turn it into something that actually helps the crew, then it is worth the time.

Tanner: Well, you don’t need me to convince the Captain, why don’t you let me get some supplies from the shuttle and I’ll meet you there.

The Denobulan nodded once, brushing a hand back through his hair.

Drex: And I doubt you will need me for the gathering part. I will go speak with Falt instead.

Kettick bowed slightly.

Kettick: Thank you for your help. Let me get the equipment from my workshop, and we can set up the array on the other side of that duen. Good lines of sight, and serves as a giant sandbag for us and the outpost both in case anyhting untowards happens.

Drex: Good. I will find you both there once I have spoken with Falt. ::He cast a brief glance toward the dunes, then the camp. :: If it works, everything changes.

He gave Tanner and Kettick a last small nod, then set off across the sand. It had been a casual encounter on a slow, dry morning. They were just crossing the camp, trying to get through another day. And then they started talking about a project that could actually be important. It was an idea that could help them move forward. A chance to leave before they get stuck in the sand and heat and the waiting. If this worked, they might actually make it back to a spaceport, to a real bed, a safe place, somewhere where he could finally rest without worrying.
