((Federation Headquarters Ballroom, Bolarus IX))
Drex was pleased to have found himself in the company of the two science officers. He had not had many opportunities to speak with Gnai in particular, and his interactions with Stapledon had so far been almost entirely professional. He had long believed that people were best understood outside formal duty settings. The awards ceremony was not quite as relaxed as a beach on Bolarus, but neither was it the briefing room aboard the Eagle. The atmosphere was less structured, and perhaps a little more conducive to genuine conversation. The presence of alcohol might also help his companions relax and feel more comfortable speaking with him as Drex rather than as the First Officer.
He had a glass poured from the bluish pitcher after placing a few appetizers on a small plate. He turned slightly toward the science officers.
Drex: So, what do you hope for the next mission? ::He took a sip, then frowned slightly as he tried to make sense of the taste.:: Personally I would love to run into some ancient ruins.
Gnai: Response
Stapledon: Hm that would be interesting too. Archaeology would be a cool mission too.
Gnai: Response
The First Officer smiled and took another sip of his drink.
Drex: History has always interested me, particularly the history of different cultures. I majored in Xeno-Anthropology at the Academy, but back on Denobula I was an architect, so ancient ruins combine both of my interests perfectly.
Stapledon: I think there was at least one... The USS Enterprise discovered a Dyson Sphere.... That'd be a heck of a relic to find.
Gnai: Response
A broad smile spread across Drex’s face, and he lifted his glass slightly as if to underline the comparison.
Drex: Ring 42 is not that much different. Have you ever been there?
Stapledon / Gnai: Response
The Denobulan shifted his glass to a more secure grip and, after a brief and mildly awkward effort, managed to pick up one of the appetizers from his plate with his free hand.
Drex: It was my first assignment. Last news I heard they were still fighting to figure out the writings. Symbols do not overlap with anything we know.
Stapledon / Gnai: Response
Drex set the appetizer back onto his plate for a moment, gesturing lightly with his free hand as he spoke, his enthusiasm growing as the memory resurfaced.
Drex: Unfortunately, the only being aboard who might have provided any real answers was an android. Its memory was damaged, so it did not remember who had built it. But I saw it change shape right in front of me. At one point, it even grew a tail to resemble the Caitian who was attempting to communicate with it. ::A thoughtful expression crossed his face.::
Maybe, it may suggest that its creators were capable of altering their own form as well.
Stapledon / Gnai: Response
