Letek: If you're new to the Eagle, I assume you're Lieutenant Kimberly Stapledon?

Stapledon: That's me.

Letek: I'm Elor Letek, one of the doctors on the Eagle crew. Let's see if you're ready for duty.

He began pursuing her medical file. There weren't many entries, but the ones that were there were quite something. Assimilation by the Borg on Frontier Day... Not everyone had something like that in their file.
For a brief moment, he was tempted to ask her about it. It would certainly be interesting to hear firsthand what exactly had happened, how it had felt. However, it would probably be quite inappropriate to bring up these memories just because of his curiosity, because Kimberly's experience had certainly not been pleasant.
Besides, the focus was on the here and now and the question of whether she was fit for duty. And that entry was irrelevant.

Letek: There's nothing noteworthy in your medical file so far, which is good. Any acute problems I should know about?

Stapledon: None.

Letek: Okay, let's take a look at your general health. It shouldn't take long.

He put the PADD aside and activated the biobed's scanners.

Stapledon: Understood.

Letek: Are you from Earth?

Stapledon: No. New Cyprus, my home planet, was a nice place. Federation colony that did a pretty good job with public sanitation.

Elor looked at the display of Kimberly's vital signs.

Letek: Ah, that explains the readings. Lots of foreign proteins.

Stapledon: Like which kind?

Letek: The type of proteins found in the Felidae family, especially in their saliva. You have the opposite of a cat allergy, so to speak. If I remember correctly, New Cyprus is known for its many cats. You must have had a lot of contact with these animals from an early age.

Stapledon: Response?

Letek: It must have been great growing up with animals. I only ever had fish. :: Rolling his eyes :: My mom didn't want animals in the house that shed hair everywhere.

Stapledon: Response?

Elor deactivated the scanner and looked at the values again.

Letek: As it stands, there's no reason not to give you clearance. I couldn't find anything that would prevent you from serving.

Stapledon: Response?

He took a step back so she could stand up.

Letek: Then I look forward to working with you in the future. Provided we get a new ship.

Stapledon: Response?

He watched her go and stopped her once more before she left the infirmary.

Letek: And don't forget to try the Sem'Hal stew!

Stapledon: Response?

TAG / END for Elor
