((Armory tent, Starfleet Compound))
She double checked her pack at the question of how stocked in hydration they were for their journey.
Lim: I’ve got two in my pack.
Williams: I have a full canteen on my belt, and one more in my bag.
ch’Clex : Same here, got two.
Drex: Commander, we might want to consider traveling at night if the weather turns against us.
Williams: Yeah, lets do this one by the book. So that means I want honesty from each of you. If it gets to warm, if you need a break, if you don’t feel well. You tell me. Last thing we want is people fainting or worse and get us stuck. We don’t need heroics today.
She peered at the sky and tried to figure out how long it would take for the sun to set based on its position in the sky.
Lim: That would increase the risk of animal attack, wouldn’t it?
She had certainly noticed an uptick in animal noises after the sun set.
Williams: No more than being a visible piece of dinner in brought daylight.
ch’Clex : It might, but visibility will be poor at best at night, and we don’t have any night googles. oO One more thing I wish we got with us from the Eagle. Oo
Drex : Response
Lim: Well let me know if any of you get a headache or start to feel nauseous or dizzy.
Heat exhaustion was no joke in general but it would be especially bad out here.
Williams: Keep a close eye on each other and hope we find water and some shade along the way.
ch’Clex: Will do Commander.
Drex : Response
She squinted into the distance before turning back to the rest of the group with a slight smile.
Lim: Mirage water or actual water?
ch’Clex : ::Giving Lim a smile.:: Actual would be preferable.
Drex : Response
((Timeskip 1 hour))
They were making good time thankfully, even dragging the converted stretcher along with them. They’d been rotating who was dragging the stretcher behind them so no one got too tired. Noemi had been keeping an eye on everyone, looking for heat exhaustion while making sure to keep herself in the safe zone as well.
Williams: Not bad. If we can keep this up, we’ll cover some real ground before the sun forces us to stop.
Williams: Signal holding steady?
Drex: Response
Williams gave a short nod in reply.
Williams: Alright, same rotation on the stretcher. Fifteen minutes each. Speak up if you’re feeling it.
ch’Clex: Aye sir!
Lim: Still good.
Drex: Response
As the group pressed on, the sunlight dimmed for a moment. Noemi looked up and spotted a vast living cloud, made up of a whole swarm of flying creatures of some sort. Commander Williams pulled out his bow and arrows, to hunt the creatures or ward them off Noemi was uncertain.
Williams: Eyes up! Stay close.
Noemi drew up with the rest of the group, eyeing the swarm warrily.
ch’Clex: ::In a low but quick voice to Commander Williams:: Commander, what are you hoping to do with that bow against that ::Pointing at the cloud of several hundred creatures. :: We need to hide. ::Turing to Drex:: We got any caves or anything to hide in nearby?
Lim: I’m not liking the feel of them sir. They’ve been stirred up by something.
She wasn’t all that good at deciphering animal feelings, she usually left that to Mue, but she was fairly certain she was picking up something akin to alarm and fear.
Williams / Drex: Response
ch’Clex: That sounds just what we need. ::Turning back to the Commander.:: I know we don’t know what’s in there, but it might be better than to face whatever that swarm thing is that coming toward us.
Lim: I second that suggestion sir. It would also give us the opportunity to rest out of the sun and cool down for a bit.
Williams / Drex / ch’Clex: Response
Lim: Then let's get out of here before they arrive.
Williams / Drex / ch’Clex: Response
The scramble over to the cave was definitely one of her least graceful moments. Noemi had grabbed part of the stretcher to help Tholin drag it faster into the mentioned shelter which, when combined with her pack full of gear, made for a rather awkward running experience.
The cave they were sheltering in was only really spacious near the entrance, getting narrower and narrower the further back you went until the opening was only big enough that a creature the size of Mue could pass comfortably. At the very least they wouldn’t need to worry about disturbing any large inhabitants
Lim: Whew, made it.
Williams / Drex / ch’Clex: Response
