It had taken hours of sweat, dust and stubborn improvisation, but in the end the four of them managed to force the deflector into place on the larger shuttle. It was the kind of victory that should have been celebrated, maybe even loudly, but Favon had already excused herself back toward camp, and the remaining three quickly discovered they were completely out of anything resembling a drink. The success felt real, but the moment to toast it… not quite within reach.

Drex: Are you sure your fighter is dry?

Williams: That’s it!

Alex’s excitement was obvious and Drex could see the gesture forming, but fatigue dulled his reflexes. He did not adjust quickly enough, and the Lieutenant Commander’s hand landed on his shoulder in a brief, emphatic clap before he could step aside. It was not painful, just unwelcome in the way all unexpected contact was for him. He said nothing, too tired to chastise, too polite to make it awkward.

Braya: ::Shaking her head:: I had one flask in there. And it’s empty now.

Williams: You two can keep a secret, right? ::He made sure they knew he was serious this time.::

Braya: To my grave.

Drex exhaled through his nose, a tired, amused sound more than anything else.

Drex: One of these days, Commander, you’re going to actually remember I don’t like being touched. Until then, I will keep working on keeping secrets better than you keep track of personal space.

The Denobulan watched as Williams walked away and disappeared into his tent for a few moments. When he returned, he was suspiciously holding a handmade bowl. When he got closer, a faint smell of alcohol reached Drex's nostrils. The scent became a certainty when Alex raised the cup in a toast.

Williams: To hard work, good company… and surviving another day. ::He first passed the bowl to Braya. :: And for the sake of our careers. Keep this to yourself!

Braya: ::Taking the bowl:: As if I got any career left. ::Lifting it slightly:: Cheers, gents.

Drex watched as Braya took a sip, noting the slight wince as she swallowed. When she handed him the bowl, he accepted it cautiously and let the faint fumes reach his nose.

Braya: ::Hissing:: Yup. That’s the good stuff.

Drex: To work done well, and in good company.

He lifted the bowl to his lips and took a careful sip. The burn hit immediately, sharp and warming, and his eyes widened slightly. Whisky. Strong, smooth and surprisingly good. He let the taste linger, realising that even on a day like this, some things were worth savouring.

Braya: ::Watching Drex’s reaction with a smirk:: See? What’d I tell ya’?

Drex: Exactly the sort of drink a day like this deserves. :: He smiled, passing the bowl to Alex. ::

Williams: Response?

Braya: ::Cautiously:: So…how well you two know the… ::Stopping herself short of saying something she might regret:: …the Captain. Adea. Ya’ heard anythin’ ‘bout a plan to get us home or…

Drex: He failed me at my Academy final, along with Falt. That’s about the extent of what I know, aside from the obvious… that he’s Betazoid. ::He paused for a moment. :: I haven’t heard of any plan yet. ::He glanced at Williams, with a hint of curiosity. :: Does the Chief of Security and Tactical have any more information?

Williams: Response?

Drex watched Braya’s gaze drift to the empty bowl, noting the spark of mischief in her eyes despite the weariness of the day.

Braya: Guess I'll need t'start brewin' my own moonshine, then. Plenty o' parts in the Valkyrie t'make a good still.

Drex: Perhaps it would be best if you loot the pods before your fighter. What do you say?

Williams: Response

Drex: I'll leave that to you two. But I hope to see the fighter still intact tomorrow morning.

Braya / Williams: Response

The Denobulan stretched his back and shook his head, as if trying to clear his thoughts muddled by the lingering warmth of the whiskey.  He turned his back on them and began to walk away. He raised a hand and, with an amused tone, said goodbye.

Drex: Don't stay up late, and don't do anything I wouldn't do.

Braya / Williams: Response
