((Sickbay - Deep Space 224))
Drex and Lim had served in the same unit for a while, but thanks to the Denobulan aversion to telepaths, most of their interactions had remained strictly professional. The idea that his inner voice could be overheard had always unsettled him.
Still, being the godfather of a little Betazoid girl meant he had been forced to accept that his thoughts would not always stay entirely his own. And Noemi had never once given him the impression she was trying to peer into his mind.
Maybe this was the right moment to stop treating her differently and simply see her as he saw anyone else on the ship. Besides, the small creature that always accompanied her was surprisingly intriguing.
Drex: That actually makes sense. Can he sense others too? I mean... :: he lifted a hand, vaguely indicating the space around them:: should I be worried he’s judging me right now?
She turned her head to look at Mue questioningly who chittered in response before they both turned their attention back to Drex.
Lim: He can sense you like I do, but meicora don’t think about things like we do so he’s not interpreting what he’s reading like you or I would. He’s mostly just curious about you and interested in making friends.
Drex: Curious about me, huh? Well... I’ll try not to disappoint him.
Mue slipped off Lim’s shoulder with a soft thump, landing neatly on the floor. The little creature padded over to him and tapped at his pant leg with one tiny paw. Drex blinked, caught off guard.
oO Alright... he wants your attention. Oo
The Denobulan shifted his stance slightly, giving the creature space. Mue seemed satisfied with the acknowledgment; in an instant, he bounded up onto the biobed Drex had just stepped away from, settling there as if presenting himself for inspection. Or perhaps inviting him to do the same. Drex found himself matching that curiosity, studying the small being who was studying him right back.
Lim: He mostly uses my interpretation of what people are feeling for a basis if he needs to. Meicora can pick up things that humans and betazoids at least can’t, so he’s picked up things that I’ve missed and pointed it out to me.
Drex: So he’s not just sensing emotion, he’s sensing the environment itself. That’s... impressive.
Lim: Electrical fields and some airborne chemicals and gases, which can be a bit disorienting to get through the bond.
The science officer raised his eyebrows at that, pushing a quiet breath through his nose.
Drex: Sounds like a party in your head, ::He murmured. Then, with a gentler tone:: But this way the two of you can manage to catch trouble before the rest of us even notice the room’s changed.
Lim: Response
Drex shifted his weight, giving Mue a respectful glance.
Drex: If so, I’ll hold his instincts in pretty high regard. He turned to the meicora with a small, approving smile:: Sounds like you’re entirely flaw-free.
Lim: Response
Drex snorted under his breath, folding his arms loosely.
Drex: I’m already learning more than I expected, so surprise me.
Lim: Response
