Placing the PADD in his hand on the table in front of him to the other one, Elor still looked confused at the two tablets.
He had read Lieutenant Commander Williams' invitation and the corresponding entry in the Federation database several times, but was still not sure if it was just a joke.
The Chief Security Officer had invited him and his colleagues to a Christmas get-together. Elor knew roughly what Christmas was, after all, he was in a relationship with a human, but they had never celebrated it together because it just hadn't happened.
After reading the database entry on Christmas, he was honestly quite glad that he had been able to avoid it so far.
What kind of religious holiday was this supposed to be?
A man dressed in red arrived either in a sleigh or an antique, motorized, monstrous vehicle called a truck and brought the children coal or caffeinated lemonade, depending on whether they had been good or bad.

But that wasn't the only crazy thing about this party. While searching for something suitable to wear, he came across an entry that urged him to wear a so-called "ugly sweater." Along with a bobble hat and heavy leather shoes.
But Elor also knew that such social occasions were part of the culture, and he didn't want to exclude himself, even if he thought the party was absurd. Besides... they weren't really friends, but he got along quite well with the head of security by now.

((Holodeck 12 - Deep Space 224))

He had been forced to settle on the outfit described above. A scratchy, extremely ugly, colorful sweater, red plush pants, and heavy leather boots. On his head, matching his pants, he wore a red cap with a white pompom.
Hoping not to embarrass himself too much, he cautiously entered the holodeck.
He looked around in amazement. Contrary to his expectations, the decorations for this celebration were extremely tasteful and pleasantly cozy.
There were already a few other guests there. He recognized Braya, who was dressed far less conspicuously than he was. However, that didn't tell him much, because it was impossible to tell whether he had simply made a huge mistake or whether Braya just didn't feel like dressing up so silly.
But then he recognized Tholin by her side and was relieved. His Andorian friend was wearing an outfit just as bizarre as his own. So either they were both wrong, or he had done everything right after all.
Lieutenant Stapledon was also already there, chatting with Williams, both also dressed less conspicuously.

He waved to Tholin and Braya from afar and was about to walk over to them when he saw Jackson standing alone by a fireplace.
He decided to deepen his new acquaintance a little and keep him company first.
On the way there, he stopped at the bar and was handed a cup with something that smelled extremely sweet. It was called mulled wine. He didn't know what it was, but if it contained alcohol, it would at least loosen him up a little.
Careful not to spill any of the hot drink, he walked over to Jackson, but then hesitated briefly.
How should he address him? Had they already reached the stage of using first names, or would that be too soon? He decided to play it safe.

Letek: Mr. Tanner. From playing golf on the warm California coast to a winter celebration. It's been a while.

His words seemed to snap Jackson out of his thoughts.

Tanner: Sorry, I was a million miles away. ::Looking at their outfit.:: You look great!

Elor looked down at himself doubtfully. Since Jackson wasn't dressed as flashily as he was, it was probably just a polite gesture.

Letek: To be honest, I doubt that a little. The database didn't provide too many suitable suggestions. If I had known that subtle colors were also available... But I assume you know a little more about this festival?

Tanner: Oh, Christmas festivities are a routine feature back home. So I was just reflecting upon that. ::Brightening up.:: How are you anyway?

Elor looked at the small gift in his hand before turning back to Tanner.

Letek: A little unsure at the moment, but it wouldn't be the first time I've dressed inappropriately for a tradition I'm unfamiliar with. When I was in college, I went to a so-called "70s party". It wasn't until afterwards that I realized men don't wear bright pink dresses to these parties.

Tanner: Response?

The Bajoran sipped his cup of hot mulled wine and his expression immediately brightened. That was really delicious!

Letek: Anyway... I read that it's traditional to give gifts at Christmas, and according to the records, this caffeinated lemonade would be an appropriate gift. I was thinking of bringing a piece of coal, but that would have just made my hands dirty.

With that, he handed Jackson a small glass bottle containing a blackish liquid.

Tanner: Response?

Anyone: Response?
