((Sickbay - USS Eagle A))
Noemi had never been more glad to be back in her own sickbay than this moment. The number of extra hands to tackle the tasks at hand alone was a goddess sent blessing. The fact that those hands were competent, knowledgeable, and less fried was the cherry on top.
While the transporter was good at cleaning off foreign particulates, none of them had really wanted to take any chances at infesting the ship. She had them all go through the decontamination process again while in quarantine before she freed them to clean up and change in sickbay’s attached bathroom, with Tholin getting an actual wheelchair instead of the jury rigged cart they’d used on the moon. Noemi happily chucked their EVA suits and uniforms in the incinerator while their equipment was undergoing a much harsher sterilization using the same ethylene oxide gas method they used with medical devices.
Once everyone was decontaminated, clean, and redressed, they reassembled into sickbay proper to finish handling the medical issues she only had the ability to field treat while on the moon. While Stapledon and Alexander’s issues had been relatively easy to finalize and send them on their way, Tholin was going to take more time.
Lim: Alright, so plan of attack. We’re going to scan Mister ch’Clex’s other leg to create a blueprint base for the prosthetic and then tweak it a bit based on your prior medical scans to match the lost limb as much as possible. The prosthetic will get replicated and then we’ll put the area under local anesthesia, remove the tissue cap, then connect the nerves, bones and other tissue to the prosthetic cap. Once that’s done and there are no issues, then we can attach the rest of the new limb.
She spoke the simplified version of plan out loud not just so Tholin would have the benefit of knowing what they were planning, but also so Elor could double check her tactics as the less mentally fried one of the two of them.
ch’Clex/Letek: Response
She sighed a little in relief.
Lim: Okay good. Then let's get the scan started. ::To Tholin :: You don’t have to be perfectly still but try not to move too much unless we tell you.
Between herself and Elor, they got the specialty scanner positioned over Tholin’s remaining intact leg and initiated the scanning process.
ch’Clex/Letek: Response
As the scanner ran, Noemi pulled up the computer’s catalogue of prosthetic options.
Lim: We’ve got several options here for how you’d like your prosthetic to look and function.
ch’Clex/Letek: Response
Lim: We can set it up to look as close to the original limb as possible, though some people do have issues with that. Dives too far into the uncanny valley.
