((Security and Tactical Area, Deck 2, USS Eagle-A))
ch'Clex: They need to be ready, and I believe we should be ready for situations to become more complicated and more dangerous.
Falt: Complicated for sure, but not everything in the universe is trying to hurt us. A big part of my job is readiness, so I understand your perspective. I'm just not sure we need to have non-security personnel join Tactical drills.
Tholin held the PADD steady in his hands, his expression measured. He did not push back immediately. He considered the Commander's words first, as he always tried to.
ch'Clex: I take your point, Commander. And I do not disagree that not everything out there intends us harm. ::a brief pause:: But readiness is not about assumption. It is about ensuring that when a situation does escalate, we are not caught without options.
He set the PADD down on the console beside him.
ch'Clex: We may never need it. I would simply prefer that we have it.
Tomas nodded.
Falt: I'm just offering another perspective for consideration. ::Giving Tholin a bright smile.:: This is your wheelhouse, not mine. I'll support whatever plan you choose to put in front of the XO. ::pause:: It's really good to see you back on duty, Lieutenant.
Tholin felt something settle quietly in his chest at that. He gave a small nod, one antenna dipping briefly forward.
ch'Clex: Thank you, Commander. ::a faint, dry note entered his voice:: It is good to be back.
He held Falt's gaze for a moment longer than was strictly necessary, then straightened and gives the Commander a respectful nod before turning back to the console. There was still work to be done, and the familiar rhythm of it was something he had no intention of wasting.
