((Corridor - Deck 358, Voth Generation Ship Igirni - Delta Quadrant))
Part of her wanted to leave them and aid her people, but the other part of her, probably the more reasonable part, knew she could not do such a thing.
Verrla turned to look at the Starfleet officers, people she had responsibility to and had implicitly offered protection to when she had invited them to the Igirni. Sure there might have been some danger to the groups that would be directly aiding the engineers, but that was due to accidents, not leading them into potential firefights.
She returned her gaze to where her people were fighting and dying for some unknown conflict.
It hurt, but she knew what she should do.
Verrla: ::Turning back to the Starfleet officers. :: There are other routes we can take to the communication department. :: With a decisiveness she didn’t really feel. :: This way.
Drex: Shut up, I know. ::He muttered, then louder:: In our current situation, we can’t be of any help. We need to send a distress call and possibly figure out what is going on.
Avariswal / Mensah: Response
She led them away from the conflict and back the way they came before diverting down a side hallway. As they moved along Verrla noted with growing worry the lack of Voth they passed on their journey. The route they were taking was taking them through the less trafficked areas and the current shift was a lighter one, but there should have been at least one person working in the areas they passed.
Verrla: Commander Drex, are your scans picking up anything?
Drex: The interesting thing is that no one is nearby. ::He tapped the tricorder's controls:: I'm still detecting weapons fire from the area we just left.
Dred settled into her stomach. The question of who exactly is fighting and for what reason lingered in the back of her mind. She didn’t like it one bit.
Avariswal / Mensah: Response
Verrla: There are equipment lifts back this way but they can be used by personnel in the case of emergencies.
And this was an emergency.
Verrla: Our walk to the communication department will be longer than if we’d taken the central lifts, but we can get there hopefully without running into any more fighting.
Drex: I'd rather take the long way around than walk straight into another fight.
Avariswal / Mensah: Response
The Lieutenant Commander raised the tricorder as if to show there were no contacts within range.
Drex: Either they’re concentrating their forces elsewhere... or they’ve got some kind of technology to stay off our sensors.
She did not like any of this.
Verrla: ::Uncomfortable:: Let us hope it is the former rather than the latter.
Avariswal / Mensah : Response
They finally reached an elevator and stepped inside. Once the doors were sealed Verrla directed the lift to ascend to their desired floor. The trip was thankfully uneventful, but when the doors opened they were greeted by an empty and silent corridor. Commander Drex stepped out first with his tricorder extended, most likely trying to pick up any signals.
While he did that Verrla glanced around in concern. She heard no one beyond themselves and the hum of machinery and lights; another sign of how wrong things were. There should have been some of her people around, this place was less off the beaten path.
Drex: Elder... is it normal for there to be no personnel in this section?
Verrla: ::Worried:: No... It's not.
Avariswal / Mensah : Response
The tricorder interrupted their exchange with a sharp, urgent alarm. Verrla looked to Drex anxiously for the answer.
Drex: A group of Voth, eight. Cannot tell more.
If she had been human she would have been biting her lower lip in uncertainly, but as a Voth she ground her back molars as she thought through their options.
Verrla: Can you tell how far away they are and if they are moving this way?
It would be useful to know how much time they had before they had to make a decision.
Avariswal / Mensah / Drex: Response
With the communication department close by they really didn’t have all that many options to avoid a potential confrontation. There were only so many hallways they could take.
Verrla: There are only a couple of routes to the communication department from here. One of them may take us around them, but it depends on what direction they’re moving in. That also does not preclude there being other groups along the way. Stealth will be required in any rate.
