((Shuttle Docking Bay, Deck 347, Deep Space 224))
Tersus waited patiently in the rear of the shuttle whilst they came to a complete stop, the package for Commander Falt held firmly under one arm. It had travelled with him from Denali Station, and per the
Commander's strict instructions had not once left his side.
More importantly, neither he or it had been through a transporter since he'd collect the package from Commander Falt's personal effects that had remained on Denali. Tersus did not know why that last instruction had been so vital, bit since it was rare for the
Commander to give him such specific direction he knew it must be of significant importance.
The indicator light on the door changed from Amber to Green and it slowly opened. He stepped out into the docking bay to be greeted by Commander Falt.
Falt: Crewman First Class Tersus, it is good to see you. I'd ask how your trip was but I know you're not one for pleasantries.
Tersus met the Commanders gaze and tool a long drag from his breathing apparatus before responding.
Tersus: Indeed, Commander. I am here, and that is that. ::he tapped the sealed box under his arm:: I also have your personal effects, as requested.
To his surprise the Commander slapped him on the shoulder, a particularly human gesture that Tersus has not expected from the man.
Falt: Thank you, Tersus. I knew I could trust you with this. It means a great deal to me.
Tersus glanced down at his shoulder, and the obvious crumple that the Commander had left on his otherwise immaculate uniform. When he turned his gaze back to the Commander the exasperation was clear on his face.
Tersus: Of course, Commander, although violence was not required as thanks.
The Commander threw his head back and laughed, a bellow that echoed around the docking bay and caused a number of curious officers to turn their way. Only when his own expression did not change after a few seconds did the Commander realise he had not been joking.
Falt: My apologies, Tersus. I may have become a touch over enthusiastic there.
Tersus: Since it is out if character for you I readily accept your apology, Commander. Now, I believe this is yours.
Tersus held out the box and the human took it almost reverentially. He drummed his fingers on the outer case for a moment, seemingly lost in thought... Not for the first time Tersus found himself wondering what might be in the box, although he saw no need to
ask the Commander about it. If nothing else, he was confident Falt would tell him when he was ready.
Tersus: Shall we depart the docking Bay, Commander. I'm sure the station staff would like to use it again soon.
His comments seemed to snap the Commander back to the present. He gestured towards the exit.
Falt: Indeed. Shall we?
Tersus nodded and as the pair set off he wondered if this time his work station would be more than a small simple desk outside the Commanders office. He really hoped not...
