(( Primary Engineering, Deck 11, USS Eagle-A ))
Getting a new check-up from Engineering was second-nature to Gnai, especially with the turnover of engineering officers on the Artemis… so it knew to be prepared and have a PADD and some patience ready to explain itself.
Gnai: If you want the design drawings, this did bring them with, in case they would have been of assistance. ::handing him a PADD:: The suit has been repaired numerous times since these were drawn, however. It may not be completely accurate anymore…
Lt. Cmdr. Kettick took the PADD. Gnai hoped that there was enough there, well-documented, that this would be a relatively simple diagnostic.
Kettick: Most appreciated. This will shorten the procedure significantly. Not to worry, piecemeal refits are a time-honored tradition among the Corps of Engineers. There is a joke about one runabout on the USS Theseus that has had his pieces swapped or replaced so often that the only thing left from the day of its launch is the dedication plaque.
Gnai: That would be an accurate assessment of this suit, quite frankly. Almost that’s left of the original is just this. ::gesturing to itself within the suit::
That seemed to make Lt. Cmdr. Kettick curious, in some way, as he tilted his head.
Kettick: If this one may be so bold, how do you pilot the suit?
Gnai: Can this ask why? This hasn’t noticed any issues with responsiveness of the suit…
Kettick: Half curiosity, half professional interest. This one is trying to design an exo-suit that would increase the number of manipulator limbs available to a worker, and designing a cross-species control input system is... finicky.
Cross-species control… that did sound like an interesting problem to solve, even amongst humanoids there was a great diversity in input system design.
Gnai: Interesting. This isn’t too certain that this suit’s control scheme would be very useful for that project, as it’s very specific to Galadoran biology. It utilizes chemical, electrical, and light signaling that Galadorans can impart in water to perform the various functions needed.
Kettick: Response
It shrugged with the suit’s arms, floating around in its tank with the motion.
Gnai: As long as the suit fit, this presumes that it could manipulate controls designed for humanoids… But a suit-within-a-suit would be somewhat a ridiculous looking thing.
Kettick: Response
Gnai: What do you need this to do with the suit, to help with your diagnostic?
It was willing to follow any order given to it (well, within reason, of course), unsure of what sort of engineer Lt. Cmdr. Kettick would be. There had been a veritable gamut of diagnostic tests it had run over the years with various engineers, who all seemed to have their own preferences and ideas as to how to understand Gnai’s suit.
