to USS Eagle
((SOS Lab, Deck 10))

The crew of the USS Eagle was on shore leave after their last mission. Not the entire crew, of course. Operations on the ship had to continue. Maintenance had to be carried out and the systems had to be kept running. Of course, the doctors in sickbay also had to be available for illnesses and emergencies. And there was another reason why not all of them were on a trip to the Romulan colony: the mystery of the nebula had still not been solved.

That was something that Elor couldn't rest easy about either. Not only because of what he had experienced on the Ifir. No, medical curiosity and the desire to be better prepared for such events next time also drove him to investigate the mystery more closely.

However, the conditions were extremely adverse. Not only did they only have limited sensor data, because the Eagle had been in energy-saving mode when they could have collected the important data. The medical data also left a lot to be desired.

That was why Elor had spent the morning in the shuttle hangar in the hope that he would still be able to find a little bit of data. Whether the work had paid off remained to be seen. Anyway, he was now entering the SOS Lab on deck 10, because he knew that Noemi would be there and they could probably find out more together than alone.

The door to the lab hissed open and he stepped inside, looking around. To his surprise, he didn't just find Noemi there.

Lim: Ah hello?

Sitting opposite Noemi, Drex was apparently also busy analyzing the data they had been able to collect about the nebula.

Drex: Welcome… Are you here to share your thoughts and your findings about the crazy nebula?

Elor approached them both and sat down on one of the free seats in front of one of the consoles.

Letek: I have plenty of ideas. The question is whether we have enough data to solve the mystery.

Drex nodded once.

Drex: I was reading through some data before Dr. Lim arrived. We were discussing the idea of building a simulation, from baseline medical scans to the data collected inside the nebula. Plug in everything we know, see what emerges.

Lim: Response?

Elor looked over at the console Drex was working on. They were obviously quite advanced in installing the simulation.

Letek: It's not my area of expertise, but it sounds reasonable. At worst it won't help, but it won't do much harm.

Lim: Response?

Drex: It’s just one idea. I think the computer might generate more than one possible path that leads us to the scenario we want. But if you’ve got a better approach, please, let’s hear it.

That was the moment Elor reached into his pocket and pulled out a purple isolinear chip.

Letek: ::holding up the chip:: I have something else here that might help us as well.

Drex / Lim: Response?

A smile graced his lips. It wasn't a better approach, but it was additional data they could use.

Letek: I spent the morning transferring the memorybanks from all the spacesuits. Everyone who was on the Ifir contributed to collecting data, even if they weren't thinking about it at the time.

Drex / Lim: Response?

Elor nodded.

Letek: I know. It's more the medical data that can help us. The environmental sensors have only collected very limited information. But with any luck, we can use the data from the suit to find out how the nebula has affected us.

Drex / Lim: Response?

He plugged the isolinear chip into the console and transferred the data to the system. So far he hadn't looked at what he had saved there himself and didn't know how useful the information the suits had collected would be.

Letek: Then let's see what we've found...

Drex / Lim / Anyone: Response?
