((Interior, close to Sickbay – Sickbay and Bioengineering Deck))
Noemi had ignored the infestation and had gone immediately to her most critical patients.
Lim: ::To ch’Clex:: Do you think you can get on the cart on your own or do you want help?
ch’Clex: I will give it a go.
Tholin gave it his best go but she and Stapledon were needed to help get him on the cart. Noemi booted up her tricorder and had it scan Tholin’s leg. Her stomach dropped at seeing the results. Muscle, bone and tendon tissue was rapidly degrading, and the fact that he was not unconscious from the pain and nerve damage was a goddess given miracle.
Williams: We don’t know how many more are out there. I think speed is key. Let’s get him on fast and get moving. I don’t want to spend another second in this corridor. Whatever those things were, they weren’t wandering. They were moving with purpose.
Ch’Clex: Then lets get out of here.
Stapledon turned on the cart and they began making their way to sickbay.
Williams: Did you find anything that could help our injuries?
Lim: I believe so. The replicator and biobeds are out of date but they work and we can make do from there. :: She paused and then looked at Tholin seriously. :: Though given the status of your leg, we’re going to need to amputate it.
Ch’Clex: Do what you need to do.
((Interior, Sickbay – Sickbay and Bioengineering Deck))
Upon entering the sickbay awoke from its temporary dormancy, lights flickering on and equipment waking up.
Stapledon: Alright, if you heft up I can guide it the rest of the way, sir.
Williams: Response
Noemi didn’t pay much attention to Stapleton and Alexander as they secured the sickbay beyond locking the doors, her focus was entirely on Tholin and her upcoming task.
Lim: Alright we’re going to get you into the biobed and get its monitors going while I prep for surgery.
Noemi helped get Tholin up and into one of the biobeds and got the scanner started. She then quickly grabbed all the protective equipment, tools, and supplies she would need to perform the operation.
Lim: Ready?
ch’Clex: Do it.
Noemi injected his leg with an anaesthetic and his leg gave one last twitch. She then proceeded to sterilize the area, the tools and herself, while she waited for it to take effect.
Lim: Okay, lets get this over with.
She booted up the surgical saw and directed it to sever the damaged limb from the rest of his leg. She was incredibly grateful that it was modern enough that the task was more akin to tissue regeneration but in reverse.
Williams: Response
Stapledon: You're gonna be okay. You've got this.
Lim: Leg removed. We’ll need to incinerate the leg once this is sealed.
Noemi shut down the saw and quickly but carefully moved the severed limb into a sealing biohazard bag without touching it directly for disposal. She then grabbed a tissue regenerator to finish closing up the open wound and create a cap over the end using muscle and skin tissue over the end for now. Eventually a prosthetic would be built and the cap would need to be removed , but for now sealing the wound to prevent any new contamination or infection was more important.
Williams: Response
She shut down the tissue regenerator and sighed in relief.
oO I wish I had more hands. Oo
ch’Clex: …Is it done?
Lim: It is. I’m going to start up the bed’s sterilization cycle to get rid of the biohazard remnants. It should only tingle for a bit.
Noemi began stripping off the extra PPE that she’d donned and stuffed it into another biohazard bag.
Williams: Response
Stapledon’s tricorder beeped.
Stapledon: Biosignatures. Ursoid.
The barricaded door rattled faintly as the sound of something scraping it from the other side could be heard as if to punctuate Stapledon’s point.
Lim: What?
Williams/ch'Clex: Response
Stapledon: A bear.
There was a throaty roar from behind the door.
Stapledon: Grizly.
Lim: ::Faintly:: Oh yay...
Williams/ch'Clex: Response
Stapledon: Setting my phaser to high stun. There must not be other food sources in the compound...
There was a loud thump and the barricade on the door visibly began to rock back and forth. Noemi eyed it before walking back to the equipment cabinet.
Lim: Commander Williams, can you sit on the free biobed for a moment? I believe we’ll be needing all the working eyes we can get as soon as possible.
Williams/ch'Clex/Stapledon: Response
Lim: One, two, three...
She loaded up the hypospray of medication she’d prepped for Alexander and administered the medication.
Williams/ch'Clex/Stapledon: Response
Lim: What the heck!
The biohazard bag that she’d stuffed Tholin’s limb into was now revoltingly moving.
Williams/ch'Clex/Stapledon: Response
