((Private 'Outdoor' Deck, Khhe’le Colony))
Genkos stepped up onto the dais and waved a hand for quiet. When that didn’t quite work, he stamped his cane. As the assembled ‘hoards’ of the crew of the USS Eagle turned their attention onto him, he realised the gravity of the rights and responsibilities he was about to undertake.
He’d only been with the crew for a grand total of nearly three months, and now he was supposed to lead them, to guide them, and to protect them. Already they’d shed blood in that verdammt nebula, and he was certain it was not to be their last.
He cleared his throat as he realised they were all ready for him to speak.
Adea: Ahem. Greetings assembled officers of the USS Eagle… ::he smiled, apologetically:: Sorry, I’ve only ever given the ribbons out before, not delivered the speech. ::he ran a hand through his hair:: But it is with great honour that I assemble you here, and that I am able to present you all with well-deserved ribbons. Our foray together into the Killipaartalik Nebula was not a fun one, but you all showed exemplary skill and courage in doing so. Therefore, it is my first honour to bestow the entire crew with the Explorer’s Ribbon.
Genkos led the applause, softly. They had to leave themselves somewhere to go, after all. After a few moments, he stopped, and waited calmly for the crew to cease as well.
Adea: If Ensigns ch’Clex and Braya could please join me on the stage.
As the two made their way up to the stage, Genkos picked up the two ribbons he was about to bestow on them, holding them awkwardly in one hand.
Adea: Although danger and disaster go hand in hand with the job, that doesn’t mean we should take injury lying down. Both of you suffered seriously from our last mission, and so I respectfully give you both a Purple Heart. I hope these are the only ones I ever have to bestow, but know that they will not be.
Genkos tapped his cane against the stage to commence the applause, but was unable to clap as he handed both of them their newest ribbons.
Braya / ch’Clex: Response
Genkos hurriedly continued, before Braya could get too far away.
Adea: Ensign Braya, if you could please remain on the stage. And Lieutenant Tanner, if you could come up.
He gave Kalianna the nod to pass him the next ribbon. He accepted it, and held it up for all to see.
Adea: Ensign, for the extraordinary bravery and strength of character that you showed in remaining on the bridge of the Ifir, alone, for so long, and seeing her out of the nebula, it is my distinct pleasure and honour to be granting you the Starfleet Medal of Commendation. Lieutenant, you joined me on the bridge of the Ifir even when all other officers had departed, and so we have both also been awarded the Medal of Commendation. Congratulations.
Braya / Tanner: Response
As Braya retook her place in the crowd, the applause for one of their newest ensigns was particularly strong, and Genkos had to wave a hand in order to regain control. He kept Tanner where he was with a wave of his cane.
Adea: Commander Kettick, Lieutenant Tanner, Ensigns ch’Clex, Perlman and Qualunque - if you would please come up here. ::he waited as they joined him:: In restoring power to both the Eagle and the Ifir, you have all shown exemplary out-of-the-box thinking under great pressure. It is therefore with great pleasure that I recognise this by giving you all the Innovation Ribbon.
Kettick / Tanner / ch’Clex: Response
Another smattering of applause followed as Genkos handed out each of the brilliantly blue ribbons to these hugely imaginative and intelligent officers. When the applause died down, he turned back to the crowd.
Adea: Commander Williams and Ensign Lim - please join me. ::he waited the requisite amount of time:: We were all faced with extreme adversity onboard both the Eagle and the Ifir, many of which was from our fellow officers, and it is for keeping a calm and brave face despite those circumstances, that I award you both (and myself) with the Peacekeeper Service Ribbon.
Williams / Lim: Response
Another burst of applause washed over them as Genkos gave out the medals to the two officers, whilst his own remained untouched on the table. As he turned back to the crowd, his cane found and pointed at the next two officers who were to be honoured.
Adea: Stendhal and Letek, if you can make your way to the front. ::after a pause:: Ensign Braya has been recognised for her bravery on the bridge of the Ifir, but it was you two who managed to talk her through it and have dealt with the aftermath admirably. Therefore, I am very proud and pleased to recognise that with the Unity Ribbon for you both.
Stendhal / Letek: Response
Genkos gave them both their medals, and looked over at the diminishing pile with a humoured grin. Again, his cane kept Letek where he was.
Adea: Don’t worry, not many left. Braya, Williams, Letek and Lim, please come up to the stage please. ::after another pause:: They say you can take the doctor out of sickbay, but I am still very much a medical officer first and foremost. Therefore I have left these medals to last as I arguably value them most. The four of you carried out emergency medical care under very strenuous and dangerous circumstances, and therefore, I am pleased to be honouring you all with Lifesaving Ribbons.
Braya / Williams / Letek / Lim: Response
As he handed them out, he made sure to give them out correctly. For saving the lives of fellow officers, Williams, Braya and Letek all received Silver Lifesaving Ribbons, whilst Lim received the basic Lifesaving Ribbon for saving one of their Romulan colleagues. He kept Lim and Letek on the stage, whilst gesturing for Braya and Williams to retake their place in the crowd.
Adea: ch’Clex, if you could come up here. Last time, I promise.
He grinned as he waited for the Andorian to join them.
Adea: It’s my honour to recognise each of you; Ensigns Lim, Letek and ch’Clex, officers whose conduct has shown you exemplify the values and ideals of Starfleet. You have each grown beyond the fresh Academy graduates you once were, ready to take on greater duties and greater expectations, with our great faith in your ability to do both. In recognition of your commitment and proven capability, I am pleased to promote each of you to the rank of Lieutenant, Junior Grade, with all the associated rights and responsibilities.
ch’Clex / Lim / Letek: Response
He stepped back to lead the applause as Kalianna helped to pin their new pips to their collars. He saw, or thought he saw, that each of them stood a little straighter. He clapped loudly, cane in the crook of his arm, until his palms hurt. When the applause died down, he took centre stage for the last time.
Adea: There is one final medal to bestow, and that is… to myself. ::he looked over at Kalianna with a smirk:: Apparently my actions were worthy of the Leadership Excellence Ribbon. ::he held up a hand to forestall any applause:: However, that is merely a small part of my news. ::he stood up straight:: It is with great sorrow that I must announce that Commodore Kalianna Nicholotti has been reassigned - her work with the 13th Fleet requires her attention more fully, and so she will be focussing herself there. She will remain onboard. I am certain that we would all like to express our sincerest gratitude and praise for her excellent leadership of the Eagle’s crew during her time here, and we look forward to seeing her around the corridors.
He led the applause himself, clapping longer and louder than practically anyone else in the room, and when he had finally tired of that, he had one final announcement to… well, announce.
Adea: However, the Eagle will remain in service, under a brand new Commanding Officer. This officer comes, apparently, with a long list of experience and awards, having served on many ships even if this is his first command. He’s even recently won the Leadership Excellence Ribbon. ::he paused, as he swelled with both pride and embarrassment for the clumsy announcement:: It’s me. I am now the Commanding Officer of the USS Eagle, and Commander Cayden Adyr will be serving as my First Officer.
As the news sank in, he had one final twist of the news knife.
Adea: Finally, this time I promise, there will be a senior staff meeting tomorrow at 0800 hours where we shall receive our newest orders. So please, don’t be late… or hungover. Other than that, enjoy yourselves.
He stepped down from the dais and put a hand on Kalianna’s shoulder.
Adea: So, how did I do?
Nicholotti: Response
