ch’Clex: Bring the dampening field down Lieutenant, we will cover you.

 The gorey remains of the bear they had thought previously defeated dropped to the deck with a bone shattering, and goopy, impact. The creature rose and charged far quicker than an ordinary grizzly, let alone an undead one, and roared in challenge. 

Tholin slammed the wheelchair brakes harder and fired a sustained beam into the joint to break its momentum, trying to drop its front end before it could get leverage.

ch’Clex: Commander didn’t you kill and cripple that thing?

Lim: Given what happened to your leg I don’t think killing or crippling does much here.

They should have shoved it into the incinerator before they left like they did the leg.

The beam hit and the bear staggered, but it didn’t go down. Behind them, the sound of the wall behind them breaking apart grew louder.

ch’Clex: We got to hold it of Kim…

Lim: Keep going, it’s weakening!

The bear finally faltered, weight dumping forward, shoulder collapsing half a step. As one last desperate attempt, it swiped at Tholin who tipped himself out of the chair to escape the blow. And then the transparent aluminum behind them shattered, heralding the horde that would soon be upon them. 

Then a sharp, muted whump from inside the generator assembly, the lights flickered, and then the deep hum stuttered and stopped. Their combadges chirped, indicating that they were connected to the ship’s network once again, buoying her spirits from the digging to hell levels they had been not one minute earlier.

Notwanting to let its prey escape, the bear struggled to get its limbs under it while tendrils from the shattered wall reached into the chamber.

But before anything could happen the world around her disappeared into a shimmer of light as the distinct, familiar,  and much welcomed sound filled her ears as the horror show disappeared into light.
