Nicholotti: Join me?

Kali sat and gestured to the open seating on either side of her. It was clear that at least Cayden was cautious, and if Kali were honest to herself, she had every right to be. What was coming was going to be news to be sure, but nothing bad. Well, at least it wasn't bad to her. Bad, she supposed, was subjective.

Adea: Thank you.

The Trill woman took the last glass and shot the Commodore a questioning look.

Adyr: An interesting welcome. Do I want to know what precipitated this?

Not missing a beat, nor looking away, Kali took a sip and then spoke.

Nicholotti: Probably not, but we don't always get a choice in what we know.

Well aware that the man next to her already had an inkling something was up just by the way his mind and hers settled when they were in the same room, Kali smirked as he sat back and steepled his fingers.

Adea: What a bafflingly cryptic response, Kalianna.

At that, the Trill woman nodded in agreement and took another drink. Kali finally set her drink down and let her crystalline eyes meet the inky black ones that kind of felt like home.

Nicholotti: I've been reassigned.

That was truth, sort of. Reassignment was one of those things in Starfleet, almost as certain as life and death.

Adyr: And there it is.

Cayden, it seemed, was not at all surprised. 'Kos, however, was quite the opposite. The stunned look was plain as day as he looked between the two women.

Adea: You must be joking.

Kali shook her head, doing a poor job of keeping the amusement from her features. It was, of course, a losing cause given their connection.

Adyr: She's not.

Nicholotti: Correct, but that is only half of the story.

Adea: Response?

Another sip, another minute passed by, and more tension settling between three glasses of sapphire wine. When she set her glass down again, Kali let a serious look wash over her as her eyes once more settled on the man next to her. This time it was less as a partner or friend and more from a purely commanding officer sort of manner.

Nicholotti: I'm not leaving the Eagle. On the contrary, she will be my home base for the operations of the 13th fleet. I am, however, being replaced as commanding officer.

This time Cayden said nothing, opting to sit in silence with a kind of knowing look on her face.

Adea: Response?

Now who in the room would be perfect to step into the role without any delay? Kali didn't blink, nor did she miss a beat.

Nicholotti: Commander Genkos Adea, you are hereby requested and required to assume command of the USS Eagle as its new commanding officer, effective immediately.

At that she paused and let the words settle into his mind for a moment. Cayden smiled and shook her head.

Adyr: And I am...?

Now Kali looked to her.

Nicholotti: To serve as his first officer.

Adea: Response?

Picking up her glass again after refilling it, Kali sat back and grinned.

Nicholotti: Well, the one bonus about being in charge of the fleet is being able to hand pick the command team for my flagship out of the most deserving.

And the hardest working. Genkos had sacrificed much and been through more than even she could wrap her head around, and yet he still found joy in the small things, like Toto, Nova, and the occasional morning where they both could sleep in.

Nicholotti: You have more than earned this.

Adea: Response?

Seemingly out of nowhere, she somehow had a padd in her hand and passed it over.

Nicholotti: Which means that this is yours. Welcome to the fray.

The padd contained all of the current items she had been working on; commendations, promotions, letters home, letters to ambassadors from the Romulan Empire, and so much more. She didn't exactly envy the man, but she was proud of him and she certainly didn't mind offloading some of the load she carried.

And besides, it wasn't as if she was going far. Questions were easier to ask if the person didn't need to answer a subspace call.

Adea: Response?
