to Denali Station – StarBase 118 Star Trek PBEM RPG

((Turbolift, Anchorage, Denali Station))

This had to be some kind of sign—within an hour of arriving at Denali Station, Elonat joined anxious civilians and personnel in their migration to shelter. The freshly-graduated Ensign was forced to follow evacuation orders instead of assisting with their execution. Not having yet reported to their CO, it was essentially all they could do until the (figurative) dust started to settle.

Guiltily, they had worked their way through the administrative buildings, asking the least busy looking, uniformed officers for directions. Their original destination had been the 15th floor offices, but they received a helpful tip along the way.

((Upper Operations, Anchorage, Denali Station))

Elonat carefully stepped out of the Turbolift, scanning the room, clearly looking for someone. They resisted the urge to pull the PADD they carried up to their chest like it was some sort of shield. A Bajoran woman stood next to a replicator and the Worene turned to address her.

Elonat: Pardon me. I am looking for Fleet Captain Oddas. Do you know where she currently is? ::lifts PADD:: I need to meet with her regarding my assignment to the Station.

They obeyed her non-verbal request for them to approach, habitually passing off the PADD they carried.

Oddas: You found her ::reading over the PADD:: Quite the day to arrive, Ensign Elonat - as you can see it's been quite exciting.

Elonat: Unfortunately so, sir.

They followed Captain Oddas as the two talked. Elonat stopped to stand a polite distance from her as they observed the main operations board. It displayed the City with an overlay showing the levels of radiation throughout.

Oddas: Fortunately, it appears the worst is behind us on the ground - except for these ::she pointed to three areas near the Administrative district, each roughly 4 blocks square:: pockets, where the Radiation does not appear to be clearing as quickly from the City.  I know you just got here, but I'm hoping you can help me find a way to clear it out, so we can dispense with radiation gear, suits and other precautions.

Elonat: A short-term solution would be to strip away any debris and some of the surface underneath. Then that should be stored until it can be decontaminated. Or disposed of… ::they look over the display searching for specifics:: Without more information regarding the type and source, developing an extended plan of action to ensure the radiation levels are safe is difficult.

They couldn’t recall the fine details about radiation and what particles or ions or waves were involved. However, Elonat at least knew figuring out what materials they were dealing with could give them an idea of how long the problem would last, and the severity of risk.

Elonat: Depending on what equipment is currently available, the process of clearing those areas may be dangerous. I would recommend using gear and suits that are rated for extreme levels of radiation, sir. Only as a precaution.

Oddas/Any: Response

Elonat: That would be sufficient for immediate concerns. Specialized equipment to handle the waste would likely need to be built or imported in the near future.

Oddas: Response
