((Awards Ceremony, Rooftop Garden Patio, Soldotna))
Tomas lent back on the bar and made one final visual sweep of the roof top garden before the ceremony began. The bar was open, the final few dishes for the buffet were being laid out, and the first attendees had
started to arrive, all in their dress uniforms as he'd requested. He sighed, everything was ready for the awards ceremony to begin. The problem was he wasn't really in the mood for a party...
The sudden departure of Aria, his Commanding officer since graduation and one of his few friends in Starfleet, had left him feeling a bit out of sorts. Change was a constant part of life in Starfleet, he knew that, but he'd felt it more keenly
on this occasion. He knew it was a feeling that would pass, if nothing else he wasn't really one to dwell on things for long, but right now he felt a little low.
He turned and caught the eye of a bartender, who wordlessly slid him a glass of his favourite drink, Aldebaran Whiskey. Despite his mood he grinned at being served in such a manner. It seemed the XO's habits where now well known amongst Denali's
events staff. He gave the bartender a nod of thanks before turning his attention back to the room.
As he watched the crew arrive he realised that regardless of how he felt he owed the gathering officers a good awards ceremony. They'd all earned it during the last mission if nothing else. Rather than remaining glum he decided to reframe his
negative thoughts in a positive manner. It was a psychological trick he'd learned during his survival training, and in reality there were plenty of positives to his situation.
One of his few friends had left, which meant he now had more time to meet new people.
He wasn't in the mood to party, so he'd use the gathering as an opportunity to check in with the crew and see how they were all dealing with the change.
The CO had left, which gave him a chance to take what he learned and apply it with another CO, no doubt learning more in the process.
Tomas took a sip of his whiskey and straightened up. He was pretty sure the brief mental exercise had helped a little, but any further attempts to improve his mood would have to wait. A familiar face had joined him at the bar and it was now
time to socialise.
He raised his glass to the new arrival.
Falt: Good evening.
