Fleet Captain Oddas Aria: Awards and Awards and Dancing

Aria finished her drink with one final pungent swallow of liquid courage and made her way toward the small table that was set up with the various little boxes and a small podium, mostly ceremonial.  Someone must have caught sight of her because the music quieted tremendously, not all the way but enough she could easily be heard over.

She stood behind the clear podium and smoothed her dress, waiting for the eyes in the room to settle on her.  She had to remind herself not to fidget.  

Oddas: Members of Denali Station, Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you for coming.  I promise to make this brief, despite my reputation for bloviation.  

She paused, hoping the joke would land.  Before she could let her nerves follow through, she gripped the podium slightly.  

Oddas: It has been quite a transition for all of us, establishing a new base and a new home in the middle of what can only be described as the middle of the wilderness.  Tasked by Starfleet to explore a new frontier, to create a new beacon of hope in the shadow of a retreating empire, and to discover the secrets left by the builders of the Ring, the City and the other artifacts we've found.

She paused and looked around the room at her crew. 

Oddas: Our first challenge has been met, and met well, with all the bravery, honor, and integrity expected of those in a Starfleet Uniform.  For that, thank you.

She paused.

Oddas: To begin, I would like to make it known that on this stardate All members of the crew are awarded the Maiden Voyage Ribbon, meant for those who contribute to the establishment of a new base or ship.  Your hard work and dedication lays the foundation for all of those who will come after you.   I appreciate you, and thank you.

She paused and applauded her crew.

Oddas: Our first contact with the Tungari was probably not the type of puzzle that Starfleet command expected, but our crew met them and managed to make a potential new friend in a group of aliens who found themselves among us expectantly.  To that end Oddas, Sera, Falt, Kettick, and Neshala are awarded the Diplomacy and First Contact Ribbons.  Congratulations.

Aria nodded and gave them a deep and long round of applause.

Any: Response

Oddas: While half of the crew was off playing with new friends, the other half was playing with some new technology found here in the rest of the city.  Discovering what appears to be some part of a larger system from the builders of the city.  This team, made up of Commanders Qinn and T'Lea, Doctor Indobri, Lieutenants Kendrick, Yael, and Dekas are awarded the Explorer Ribbon.

She paused and applauded before flexing each hand.

Oddas: Due largely to the reports of his colleagues and superiors, one officer is being awarded a Captain's Commendation.  Mister Kendrick kept his cool under pressure, showing restraint, intelligence, and more to solve his predicament in a situation that could have very easily turned sour very easily.  Thank you, Mister Kendrick, for providing an example of how a Starfleet officer should, and do, respond in tense situations.

As the crew responded, she retrieved the small wooden box with Sera's name engraved and placed it on the podium. 

Oddas: Mister Sera, could you join me? ::beat, waiting for the Vulcan to join her next to the podium:: Ensign Sera.  Your peers and superiors, have consistently reported on your behavior and work ethic.  They have remarked how you are diligent, helpful, and embody the spirit of a Starfleet officer.  Unfortunately for you, they also recommended you for more responsibility in the form of a promotion.  Accordingly, I am hereby promoting you to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade, with all the rights, privileges, and responsibilities hereto.

Aria passed the small wooden box containing the new hollow pip over to the newly minted Vulcan as she shook the woman's hand.  She considered attempting pinning the pip to the woman's outfit, out of uniform she wasn't sure how that would work.

Sera: Response

Oddas: Congratulations, and good luck.

Any: Response

Aria returned to the podium to finish her remarks, remarks that were going on far too long in her mind.

Oddas: You are an amazing crew, I appreciate all of you.  You are a fine crew, a great crew, one that is just making their mark on the city and in the Wilds.  A Starfleet mark, and I could not be more proud of you.  ::she paused to grin:: Now, let's party, and eat, and see what tomorrow brings.
