((Awards Ceremony, Rooftop Garden Patio, Soldotna))
It had been 4 or 5 years since Alex had to put on his golden-dress uniform. And the last time it had been a little easier. It seemed that 3 years at the academy had a minor – barely noticeable- effect on his ability to fit in. For a moment he wondered if his red and black dress uniform would fit him better. Since those had been made more recent. Not wanting to risk disappointment again he decided not to try. If three uniforms had the same problem with the belt, it would only make him feel worse.
oO Alex, my man, you have to schedule some extra gym sessions, starting tomorrow. Oo
With his belt at a slightly looser position, Alex left his room and headed for the Rooftop Garden somewhere on the station. He had seen a few pictures of it and now looked forward to seeing it in person.
As he arrived he noted everyone was still standing. All the seats that had been prepared were empty. Alex's first gaze was towards the bar and when he noted only familiar faces there he decided to go in that direction. As he made his way to Falt, Drex, and Deveau a waiter passed him offering him a drink. Alex took a glass of white wine and listened to the conversation that seemed well underway.
Drex: Has the Fleet Command communicated the name of the new CO?
Trying his jolly side, Alex stepped in.
Williams: You didn’t get the memo?
Drex/DeVeau/Falt: Response.
Williams: Hmm… Guess having a few courses in Starfleet Intelligence finally pays off.
Drex/DeVeau/Falt: Response.
Williams: Sorry, couldn’t help myself. I knew as much as you do. Officially that is. Off the record have an idea. The sudden arrival of the Excalibur made me do some checking.
Alex's time on the Excalibur had been brief. He only spent a few months there before he got reassigned to the Constitution. But that didn’t mean he didn’t remember his time at Excalibur or who its captain was.
Drex/DeVeau/Falt: Response.
Williams: It's been 10 years ago, but I did serve on that ship. I happen to know its captain and it's not unlikely that after 10 years she might be looking for a career change. If you want to make a bet, I'd put my money on Captain Nicholotti.
Drex/DeVeau/Falt: Response.
