((Awards Ceremony, Rooftop Garden Patio, Soldotna))
The Bar was full with a few guests already lit like a beacon. Obliging the call, Jackson made his way over and ordered a beer. He began scanning the crowd while he waited for it to be poured. Spotting one of his newest group members, Jackson wandered over beer in hand. It wasn’t long until he bumped into Ensing ch’Clex who had come aboard during their last mission and to be honest, Jackson hadn’t really had a chance to really introduce himself. He knew what it was like now, to have a room full of people and no one to anchor too and no one you really knew. So, in the true spirit of JOPA, he tried to provide opportunity.
Tanner: And where was home before this? Or, is this your first posting ?
Jackson had emerged from the Academy and landed at Denali with his feet already at a run. Probably wasn’t an ideal or necessarily textbook entry but it did allow him to sink his teeth into things very quickly and get to know people. But just because this was Jackson’s first posting, didn’t mean it was every other Ensigns.
ch’Clex: ::folding his hands loosely in front of him:: I was raised on Andoria, then attended the Academy on Earth. Denali Station is my first official posting since graduation.
Looking over the Andorian man's shoulder, Jackson spotted other fellow staff members he recognised. Who were fortunately heading towards them.
Tanner: Ensign Rian and West! Nice to see you here. ::Moving aside to make way at the bar.::
West/Rian: Response
ch’Clex: ::with calm warmth:: It’s good to see you both. We certainly picked the perfect night for this event. The rooftop is spectacular. ::glancing around the rooftop:: I’ve only been aboard Denali a short time, but I can already see how strongly the crew pulls together. It’s… refreshing, to say the least.
Tanner: It certainly is an asset, and something that was probably undersold in the academy.
Rian/West: Response
Tholin responds to their reactions with a slight nod, his expression reflecting quiet satisfaction.
As the group quietly chatted and took in the expansive surroundings, Commander Kettick approached the group.
Kettick: Gentlemen. Ensign Tanner.
Tanner: Commander, good to see you.
The pair had been part of a group that had managed to get somewhat stuck in the underground superstructure of the station on the last away mission. Since then, Jackson had managed to stay relatively quiet and had missed the Commander during shore leave.
West/Rian: Response
Kettick: Chief of Engineering Kettick, pleased to meet you all. And welcome to Denali Station. I hope you enjoyed your stay on the Ring so far.
West/Rian: Response
The Commander nodded, taking a sip of his fruit juice, which immediately prompted Jackson to do the same.
Kettick: Quite. It would seem that you have joined us during interesting times, as you humans would say.
A change of commanding officer was inevitably disruptive to teams. Priorities are different and so are the relationships. Jackson understood it naturally there was some sort of grieving and transition for staff. What was still up in the air though for everyone, was just who was going to be the replacement. Given Jackson’s relatively newness to the posting and Starfleet in general, he was sure he would weather it all just fine.
ch’Clex: ::bowing his head slightly, keeping his tone formal:: Lieutenant Commander Kettick, sir. I only arrived recently, but I’ve found Denali Station quite welcoming. Ensign Tanner and the others have been very helpful in getting me acclimated.
Tanner: It’s been a pleasure to receive new people. Afterall, it makes me not the new guy any more. ::Grinning broadly to the idea that he wasn’t still a newbie::
West/Rian/Kettick/any: Response
As food came around, Jackson opted for the pastry wrapped beef roll that looked small enough while offering some substance. Jackson had made similar things before and had hoped that these would come a close second at least.
Tanner: So, did anyone have any shore leave plans they didn’t quite get too? ::Pausing slightly before starting.:: I was really hoping to finish a book, but it just never happened.
West/Rian/Kettick/ch’Clex: Response
Tanner: ::Sympathising:: Sometimes, the time just moves so quick!
Movement and bodies turning caught Jackson and everyone’s eye. Looking at where everyone else was looking, Commander Falt had made his way to the announcement area, presenting the image that things were about to get underway.
Tanner: We should probably move a little closer. ::Indicating a vacant stand up table a few metres away from the business of the bar.::
West/Rian/Kettick/ch’Clex: Response
