((Alurian Feasts - Denali Station))

He raised his piece of fish to his mouth for a third time, and he began to chew slowly, savouring the way the fish flaked apart in his mouth. It was a bit overseasoned, but not too bad, yet something strange had started happening to his mouth; first it numbed, and then...

Dekas: Oh, fire in the sky. I just realized I forgot to warn you about how hot it is. I forgot you actually taste the spicy sensation.

…it burned. It burned hotter than anything Vahin had ever tasted.

He felt his face go flush as sweat began to leave his pores and slide down his quickly darkening blue face. He tried to speak, but his tongue felt ten sizes too big in his mouth.

oO (Bolian expletives) THIS IS TOO HOT! Oo

He thought about getting up and running out of the restaurant but wasn’t sure he could actually move. For the first time since taking a bite, he looked around the table; Lt. Commander Dekas seemed fine, and the others, for the most part, continued on conversing as if nothing was bothering them. Only Ensign Nilsen also seemed to be suffering from the spice.

Mekor: It's not exactly a painstick to the mouth, but it's got a kick! It does not drown out the rest of the seasoning though.

Vomek:  Don't worry about him.  He's tough.

Vomek:  Have you met any of the other teams?

Nilsen: We ::catching his breath:: sent two shuttle ::gulping more water.

Dekas: Response

Mekor: A house divided, as it were.

Arlill: They’re not important ::with a smirk:: they’re not going to win ::winking at Lhandon::

Vomek:  So do you have a favorite?  We hope our ship will be the underdog that makes a good showing.

Nilsen: It’s erm ::Breathing heavily and sweating:: She’s a fine ship (beat) say us ::attempting a laugh::.

Arlill: I’ve seen a few that I think might give us a run for our money!

Dekas: Response

Mekor: I wish you all success in tomorrow's race.

Vahin: Need.. ::burb::..drink..::burb::..casein

Vahin looked up at the nearest Aurelian staff member and gave them a pleading look. Tears streamed from his eyes; his face flushed. He tried to speak, but nothing came out. Fortunately, the staff seemed to read his mind and left, only to quickly return with a large glass of some sort of milky substance.

Vahin looked over at the offered drink and grabbed it with two hands. He began to drink it down as fast as he could, the cool milk easing the burn of the spice. He wiped away the residual white moustache with the back of his sleeve as he slammed the empty glass down on the counter with his other hand.

Vahin: ::loudly:: Another!

(Timeskip: later that evening)

((Landing Pad C, Denali Station))

To say it had been a long day would be an understatement, and Vahin wasn’t sure if it had been a good one or a bad one. On one hand, he still hadn’t completed his orders to deliver medkits to the race participants, and he had eaten something so spicy that he could still feel the burning inside of him. Yet, on the other hand, he had, up until the spice incident, been having an enjoyable time being social with not only a crewmember but newcomers to the Station.

Vahin was still thinking about the day’s events when he turned the corner and saw his cart of medkits. He stopped dead in his tracks, not due to the cart itself, which was fine and still filled with undelivered kits, but because of what he saw next to it. Standing next to the cart, hands folded behind his back, was Lieutenant Garev, and although Vulcan’s were said to show no emotion, Vahin was sure he could see nothing but disappointment on Garev’s face.

(OOC: I forgot a portion of my post.)

He looked over at Ensign Nilsen, the distress on the Ensign's face awaking a memory in Vahin.

(Flashback - Stardate 229803.12: Medical Training Ship Ottawa)

As he followed his instructor Doctor MacIntyre through the ship Vahin furiously tapped away at the PADD he held. There was so much information being thrown at him and he didn’t want to miss a thing. This was his first time working aboard a ship and he found there were some striking differences from the clinic at Star Fleet Academy

Suddenly an alarm sounded over the ship’s speakers.

Computer: INCOMING WOUNDED.

Vahin watched as two cadets were beamed into awaiting bio-beds. One was unconscious and in very serious condition, a massive chest wound leaked blood onto floor under the bio bed. The other cadet was suffering from bad burns, his foot broken and pointing in a direction no human foot should point.

Cadet Nilsen: ARRRGGHHHHHH IT HURTS

Doctor MacIntyre: Calm down Cadet.

The doctor Vahin had been shadowing moved quickly towards the unconscious cadet while he motioned for Vahin to tend to the other patient.

Cadet Nilsen: OOH GOD!!! ::tears running down his face:: I WANT MY MUM!!!

Cadet Vahin: She’s not here but I am. ::he puts a comforting hand on Nilsen’s arm:: We’ll look after you until she can arrive.

With a hiss he administered a dose of painkiller to Nilsen. Although the cadet would still be conscious he wouldn’t feel a thing as they started to heal him. Another cadet came up and began to use a dermal regenerator on Nilsen’s burns as Vahin started mending the bones of the broken foot.

Cadet Emerson: ::under his breath to Vahin:: They’re saying it’s his fault. That other cadet might die because of him.

Cadet Vahin: We’ve all made mistakes and he’ll need to carry that guilt with him. He doesn’t need us judging him as well.

Vahin looked down at Nilsen, he couldn’t imagine what it would feel like hurting a fellow cadet like that and he hoped he never would. He also hoped that in time Cadet Nilsen found a way to forgive himself.

(End Flashback)

Vahin shook his head the memory fading as the burning in his mouth intensified.
