((OOC: This has been an AWESOME scene, thank you Shayne! I look forward to doing this again sometime. You are a fantastic writer! But with the mission starting I am going to close it.))
((USS Darwin-A, Deck 6, Natural Selections))
::It was the end o a conversation. Apologies had been given, and consciences had been soothed and smoothed. And so with that the conversation seemed to be taken a turn into more practical things. Things like . . . ::
Shayne: You'll be going to the Blackwell, I'll be going to Atlantis. We might not see each other for some time. Until we do...
::As Shayne held out his hand to Merrick he found himself staring at it as if unsure what to do with it. He may no longer be telepathic, but reflexes reinforced over years of repetition had made him warey of handshakes. Then he reached out and gripped it and gave it the requisite three pumps. Merrick was not nearly as weak as he looked having grown up in a heavier gravity environment.::
::Looking at Shayne, the man’s expression seemed to be calmer now, less pensive. For that Merrick was pleased . . he just was not sure why. Inside he could feel voices and memories pushing at him, nudging him to be cordial, to be empathetic.::
R'Ven: It will soon be time, but first I believe we will have to rendezvous with the Starbase in that region. I am sure we will see each other again.
Shayne: DS26 is a big place. Maybe you'll let me buy you a drink there.
::Nodding his head Merrick nodded uncertainly. He had never been a drinker. In fact the last time he had done so it lead to him being inebriated. Not an event that he wanted to repeat.::
Shayne: Way back when, you told us about her. ::Referring to Six of Seven.:: I know it's...personal- you don't have to answer this- but...how much do you know?
::For an extended moment Merrick stared at Shayne. At the same time he could hear the voice of Six of Seven talking to him and even smiling.::
R’Ven: I have had the chance to . . become aware of most of the denizens of the Borg Sphere. If you have any questions, I would be pleased to answer them if I am able.
Shayne: Tell me more about Six of Seven.
::Pausing Merrick considered thoughtfully what he would say. Although his eyes ceased to focus on Shayne for a moment, that was probably not readily apparent. Internally he was listening to the voices of others as they told their stories. Finally Merrick regarded Shayne while a wistful smile danced playfully at his lips before it vanished.::
R'Ven: Her name was Alysia. She was a Sikaran. ::another wistful smile:: And she and her father would sneak out at night and sit and watch the second moon rise on Binos IV
::And so the conversation continued. Merrick spoke of Alysia's life, her goals, her joys and even some of her sorrows. He had no memories of what had happened after the sphere had crashed, or of how she felt being rescued, but he could tell Shayne of who she was before and her father and her village and even some of her stories. She loved stories!::
::He hoped that in the end that it would help Shayne. However, what surprised Merrick more was how he felt in the sharing of these memories. It was a release of sorts, as if he were laying someone to rest.::
