((IC))

((USS Darwin, Deck 2, Conference Room))

Brell: Without knowing exactly caused everyone to fall asleep any teams that go over there will have to don EVA suits.

::EVA suits. Bulky, all but immobile, and most certainly not his color. But they did have their uses- unfortunately. Until they ascertained the cause of this newest problem, and likely after they did that, too, there would need to be a state of containment enforced over the whole area. Shayne had already halted the flight plans of the inbound traffic, so unless some berserk malcontent decided to flaunt Starfleet and, consequently, reason, the danger of further contamination would be limited to the Darwin's actions.::

Lambert: Response

Thomas: Agree, they should afford us appropriate protection.  Even though we don’t know the exact cause yet.

::He had to admit- the suits were durable. Capable of sustaining a organic being for hours or even days in some of the most inhospitable locations and situations possible. By the end of this charade, Shayne was confident he'd be exceptionally grateful for the existence. But that only increased his concern for the people over on the station. None of them appeared to have any chance to react, and the vast majority were not wearing suits. He thought back to Renos and the rest of the Darwin personnel slouched over or collapsed on the ground. They couldn't afford to wait much longer.::

E'riQ: So... who is going, and where?

::Shayne was starting to appreciate the newcomer. Straight to the point, and seemingly knowledgeable about his subject.::

Brell: Lieutenant E’riQ you will join Ensign Kell and myself. We will be securing the station and attempt to regain control of ops. We lost our uplink so we can not remotely ensure all of the docking clamps are secured or control the environmental systems. So we will be seeing to that too.

::Brell's training as a leader would now be supplemented by his experience as an engineer. Getting control of the station could mean the difference between life and death for 25,000 innocent lives. From there, they could ensure that no further contamination occurred, and check for other compromised systems.::

Kell: response

::He felt rather sympathetic toward both of them. This was already a difficult time of transition, and now they'd need to work together to safeguard thousands of lives. He didn't envy their position, but appreciated their commitment all the same.::

E’riQ: response

Brell: R’Ven I’d like you Ensign Hikaru, along with Doctors Pond and Jora to investigate those who were put to sleep, find out what caused it and how to revive them.

::That was one of the only downsides to a shipboard relationship. A career in the fleet was inherently dangerous, and though everyone who wore the uniform accepted that, it still worried him to see Isabel assigned...well...anywhere. He had more confidence in her abilities than his own, and would trust her with his life whether they were a couple or not. But knowing that every time could be the last time he saw her was nerve-jangling at best. There was nothing to do but hope that Isabel would return unscathed. He thought back to their latest argument suddenly and smiled inwardly. If Isabel used that level of vigor in a crisis, everything would turn out fine- for those she was protecting, anyway.::

R’Ven: Physically going there presents the danger of us falling victim of whatever it is that has affected those on Star Base 26. However bringing someone here may bring that affect over here.

::Neither idea was preferable in his mind. But they had to get readings somehow. Sending a team over to actively work with whatever had caused this situation presented the risk of further contamination, and bringing a sample from the station meant that, if something went wrong- as had happened aboard the station- perhaps the best hope for fixing this mess would go down in flames.::

Brell: Your choice Commander. You can take your team over to the starbase or beam someone here under full quarantine and try to wake them here.

::He was glad that he'd worked out his differences with R'Ven- otherwise, he would feel incredibly worried that the man would be leading his girlfriend into such a hazardous situation.::

Pond: I think we can elaborate on that while preparing...

::No fear was allowed to show through her voice. Shayne's confidence was boosted just a tad more.::

Hikaru: I agree, doctor. I'm keen to check more thoroughly the status and brain patterns of those on the station.

Jora: Response

::Brell turned to the highest ranking member of the briefing.::

Brell: Commander I’d like you to take a team to the Starbase to looking into this plant spreading unchecked. You will need to find out the extent of its effect on the starbases systems and how it is effecting them to begin with. Take Lieutenants Lambert and Shayne as well as Ensign Logan.

::He thought back to his last mission with Lambert. Although it had been a success, only the skilled leadership of Commander Rennyn had stopped them from literally killing each other. Tensions had been boiling below the surface almost the moment Lambert had come aboard, but it wasn't until they were exposed to some sort of phenomenon inside the nebula the were investigating that they really exploded. Shayne could still remember how his blood screamed for Lambert's death, and how foreign it felt to come down from that particularly nasty high. Lambert had been the bigger man, and had offered an apology that the helmsman had accepted. But he still went forward with a touch of trepidation. Not due to the man, but to the situation.::

Thomas: Understood.

Logan: response

Shayne: Aye, sir.

::If they weren't going to be using the shuttle, Shayne hoped that his Ops training would come in handy. With Thomas' engineering acumen, Logan's diligent tactical ability, and Lambert's scientific background, Shayne was confident the team could handle pretty much anything the...thing growing over their decided to throw at them.::

Lambert: response

Brell: Dr. Lahr and Commander Stennes with the station unable to keep the quarantine on its own I need you two here to coordinate with the duty officers on the rest of the task force to make sure no ships break it. You will also be acting as a hub of for the incoming data to make sure teams have as up to date information as possible being gathered by the others. Luckily Darwin is our resident science ship and its computer systems are the most advanced in the fleet.

::With several teams undertaking various tasks, it made sense to have someone stay behind and coordinate. A counselor and a doctor, perhaps unintentionally, would likely make excellent candidates for the job. Both professions dealt with organization and communication on a daily basis.::

Lahr/Stennes: responses

Brell: Teams who are beaming over should suit up right away, we all have colleagues and or people we love over there that need us.

Shayne: oO That'll stay with me for awhile. Oo

Thomas: :: Wasting no time.:: Alright gents, let’s walk and talk.

::Thomas' no-nonsense attitude suited Shayne just fine. Best to dive into one's work, especially if one was dreading it. Before he left, he noticed Isabel's gesture, but was unable to return it without drawing a conspicuous eye. He was confident that right now, both felt the need for a professional relationship. Nevertheless, he was grateful for it. He gave a heartfelt smile before exiting the room.::

::As the quad of officers moved quickly down the halls toward the EVA storage area, Kael spoke up again.::

Thomas: Alright, so what do we know if anything, about what they were doing over there?

::Shayne wished the readings they'd taken had been more helpful or conclusive.::

Lambert: Response

Shayne: I was on the bridge with Commander R'Ven. We noticed that comm traffic from the station had decreased very suddenly, and as soon as the quarantine was ordered, we started our scans. All we found were 25,000 sleeping inhabitants, and that vine-thing.

Logan: Response

Thomas: response

Lambert: response

::They quickly arrived at the storage bay, and started about the arduous task of putting on their EVA suits.

Thomas/Logan: response
