PNPC CPO Jane van Klaveren – Leaving the lower decks behind

((USS Darwin, Deck 9, Engineering))

::Jane glanced at the chronometer on her workstation, slightly irritated that only two minutes had passed since she’d last checked the time.  She concluded that the meeting of the senior staff must have concluded some time ago, since the rumors had already started flying through the corridors at warp nine.  Each department seemed to receive a different version of what was to happen, and Jane had already heard no fewer than five iterations on the same theme: the Darwin was being paid off.  Its crew was to be significantly thinned out and reassigned.  Everything was to be done ASAP.::

::Being a small ship, Darwin’s crew was a tight-knit bunch, but her engineers were especially familial, and the thought of being separated so unceremoniously was enough to get the department into a minor tizzy.  Jane attempted to busy herself by performing a diagnostic on the antideuterium sublimator on the antimatter injector, while she waited to hear any first-hand information.::

::Eventually, she saw Kael Thomas returning to the bullpen.  Jane could be cool as a Ledosian cucumber when she wanted to, so she decided to catch his attention before he could be swamped by everyone else’s panicked questions.::

van Klaveren:  Commander Thomas, could I ask your assistance please, sir?

Thomas:  response

van Klaveren:  I’m in the middle of a diagnostic and I’m getting some anomalous readings on the gas flow separators.  Would you mind taking a look?

Thomas:  response

::Jane worked silently for a few moments, trying to decide the right time to begin her cool, easygoing, won’t-even-know-I’m-fishing-for-information conversation starter.::

van Klaveren:  So… how are things?

Thomas:  response

van Klaveren:  oO Oh what the hell, let’s just pull the ripcord. Oo  What’s going to happen to everyone once we reach Deep Space 26?

Thomas/Brell/anyone:  Response
