Lt Cmdr. Didrik Stennes – Gut feelings
((USS Darwin, Deck 10, Counseling Suite))
::Didrik decided there was little time to tarry once the meeting had adjourned. Crew reassignment was a logistical K2, and required multiple departments working in tandem to make sure the officers in question were successfully detached from their old posting and transplanted to the new one. With a significant number of Darwin’s 200 crew members moving on to bigger things, Didrik needed to work quickly if everything was to be ready by the time they arrived at Deep Space 26.::
::And it wasn’t just those transferring off the ship who would need his help. Humans especially disliked change, and even though Didrik’s days as Darwin’s counselor were numbered, he was still responsible for the crew’s mental health, and he was certain that the upcoming changes would leave more than a few on Darwin unsettled.::
::Didrik had made his way through the first stack of personnel files, but his productivity was impeded by the echoes from the staff meeting.::
Stennes: oO “The Darwin is being reassigned and so is its crew. We are headed for the Par’tha Expanse where the Darwin and its crew will join the newly formed Andaris Task Force.” Oo
::Bits and pieces of the news continued to churn back to the forefront of his thoughts. In a few weeks, Didrik would no longer be a Darwinian, but a… Blackwellian? He was thrilled with the thought of working on a medical ship, especially an Olympic. The Olympic-class was, to doctors and counselors, every bit the dream posting that the Norway-class was to diplomats, the Prometheus-class was to tacticians, and the Galaxy-class was to die-hard fans of beige.::
Stennes: oO “Rennyn, Kell, E’riQ, Thomas, Kalis, R’Ven and Stennes - you will be going to the Blackwell.” Oo
::Didrik had served with Thomas and R’Ven before, and had recently come to see a whole new side of Rennyn on shore leave, but the other three–Kell, E’riQ, and Jora–he knew virtually nothing about. He called up Jora’s personnel file and familiarized himself briefly with the Bajoran–Betazoid medical officer. On Blackwell, it would be vital that they worked well together, since Medical occupied such a central place in the ship’s day-to-day operations.::
Stennes: oO “Rhyn, Brell, Shayne, Logan, Pond, Lambert - you will be joining the Atlantis.” Oo
::In his wisdom, King Solomon split the baby, and half of their team would soon be serving on Atlantis. Renos’ decision seemed unusually prescient concerning one individual especially. Feeling the pressure of time and the impending separation, Didrik didn’t want his last weeks on Darwin covered by the cloud of his own emotional procrastination.::
Stennes: oO Get a hold of yourself, Didrik. You’re starting to lapse into poetry. Oo =/\= Didrik Stennes to Lt. Commander Brell. Could you join me in the counseling suite when you have a free moment? =/\=
Brell: response
((Timeskip))
::Didrik had commandeered the reception desk and buried his face in his work, determined to avoid distraction until Brell arrived. When he did, everything he was working on was swept into the desk drawers with one swift arm motion.::
Stennes: Thank you for coming. ::indicating the empty room:: There’s no one in here today. The calendar is clear and my receptionist is in his quarters. He thinks he Axanar Whooping Cough. ::beat:: I don’t, but I’m grateful to have the space to myself for a while.
Brell: response
Stennes: I owe you an apology. It was unfair of me to expect you to conform to my own–admittedly parochial–cultural attitudes about relationships. I hope you can forgive me, and that my issues didn’t cause damage to your marriage.
Brell: response
Stennes: And I want to apologize for the way I left things. Yes, my service record says I left Darwin to pursue a qualification at the Academy, but my emotional record says I was running from some personal issues that I didn't want to handle. And it’s not the first time I’ve done that.
Brell: response
