So’Mior: I did make a compilation of the information we were able to get from the Deep South mine mission.  And a profile on… Shael.

Shael.

Not a name he liked.  Not at all.

A name full of horrible memories of pain and suffering and the deaths of innocent miners.  Of the cruel treatment of a Starfleet away team.

And a mental battle that he almost lost.

Ohnari: Shael being....  ::She let it trail off.::

An awkward silence filled the area.  And finally So’Mior spoke again, if only to stop listening to his own heartbeat pounding in his ears.

So’Mior: Yes, the Ullian leader of the pirates who took over the mine.

He handed the PADD over with a picture of the pirate.

She was a plain woman on the outside.  Dark hair, pale face, high cheekbones.

Except for the eyes.  They were too wide, too black, too vicious.  They marred an otherwise perfectly normal visage.  Eyes that acted like bait for the telepathy that lay behind them.

Heeka: Despicable.

He nodded a silent assent.

Yes, she was.  Very despicable.

Ohnari: So, we're going to attempt to assist a victim of the former....pirate. Then what?

Heeka: If they exist we will rescue these people, then we will stop these pirates from harming others.

Ohnari: And if it is a trap....?

So'Mior: We still rescue who we can, we defend ourselves and do what we can to report the problem to authorities so they can be apprehended.

He said with a keen knowledge that he was not a hero and should not go wading in to a fray.

He was a scientist who was decent at commlines and could call experts in to do that.

Heeka: Diplomacy is preferable to violence. ::She paused.:: But violence is acceptable if diplomacy fails.

He decided right then and there he would let Heeka do the violence.

Dr. Ohnari was their medic.

And he was… a rock nerd who was in over his head.

Cool.  This would be great.  There was no possibly way anything would go wrong.

Ohnari: So, this person is requesting help for his sister, a victim of the Ullian mind attack...did this happen to just anyone? Or would they have a reason to target this mysterious voice's sister?

Heeka: Response?

So’Mior: It depends on the target.  Can you clarify?

Ohnari: What I mean is, did they utilize this method for....torture to keep those in line? Or could this sister have had some information they coveted?

He shook his head slowly, with a slight deer-in-headights expression.

So'Mior: I hope not the latter.  But it’s not… impossible.  Shael saw the miners as her… pets.

Heeka: Response?

So’Mior: She was most interested in information.  True.  They already had force and were holding the miners with fear.

Ohnari: The voice indicated she spoke your names. Do either of you recall an encounter that would have left such an impression...?

So'Mior: There was a fight between our away team and the Syndicate, when we first uncovered the pirates.  A pretty big fight.  Several were wounded.  Some were taken to a … pit?

He looked to Heeka for confirmation on that.  He was not in the pit.

No, he was with Shael.

Heeka: Response?

Ohnari: As awful as the entire situation was...::she gave a soft look towards So'Mior, as his discomfort was palpable, empathic senses or not.:: Like a resistance leader? Or something along those lines...? It might help to narrow down the circumstances on how his sister would have become that way, and why she would ask for you by name.

He really didn’t want to know.  But he could guess.

The shuttle hummed as it launched, getting an easy clear by the docking bays of StarBase 104.  It was a fast little independent ship.  Sturdy.  Not many weapons.  Good shields.  A defensive choice.

So'Mior: The leader of the mine – Orin Dann - was terrified of the pirates.  But he finally rallied the others to fight.

Heeka/Ohnari: ?

So’Mior: It was Dann who shot Shael.  She was going to kill everyone before the Constitution could arrive.  Because if she couldn’t have the mine, no one else was getting out of it alive.

He shuddered, remembering her pure unthinkable cruelty.  Her warped and twisted mind.

Heeka/Ohnari: ?

So’Mior: I could not begin to theorize.  We did not meet many of the miners individually.

Heeka/Ohnari: ?

So’Mior: Either way, we will know very soon.  The Thornwater is nearby.  ::he looked at the scanners.:: Just out of short range comms range.

So they couldn’t communicate with the Conny the easy way.  Commbadges wouldn’t reach.  Short range comms would be spotty.  They would need a comms console for the long range comms.  The shuttle had one.  The Thornwater had one.

That was ominous and tactical.  Even the rock nerd recognized that.

Heeka/Ohnari: ?

The comms panel flashed.  This time it was a text message.

MESSAGE: =|| … Thornwater Captain concerned about engine failure. … | …dangerous… | …Docking possible… | ::The next bit of the message was a string of access codes and docking co-ordinates.  Enough to get the shuttle onboard.:: ||=

So’Mior: Indicating there is an independent Captain and crew onboard still.  ::He drew in a breath:: Just like the mine.

Heeka/Ohnari: ?
