Imas was a good 6 hours into her shift. The work was not objectionable in any way, even if it was dull: 1) check to see what Starfleet said they would send to the Conny; 2) check to see if the crews received the shipment as described; 3) fill out the form that said "yes, we got what you said you'd send"; 4) send the forms back to Starfleet.

With everyone down on Daaka--a water world, Imas had little regret missing out on it--now was a good a time as any to clear the backlog of forms and send them out to Starfleet. Sometimes it felt like whack-a-redrat with a constant stream of incoming and outgoing shipments. But while in orbit of Daaka, no shipments were coming in.

Most of it was mundane. Actually, all of it was mundane. She sipped on a raktajino and rubbed her eyes.

She'd cleared tactical, medical, engineering... all that was really left was sciences and some odds and ends.

She saved sciences for last because they were the most unwieldy: there was no debate what a torpedo casing looked like or where it went. But sciences were always getting new experiments and strange things in that required questions to be answered before the form could be sent out.

She rolled her head back and forth, cracking her neck, and looked back down at the PADD:

EXOTIC DARK MATTER DETECTOR/HIGGS FIELD MEASUREMENT.

The words bounced off her retina, producing no particular meaning. She'd heard of "dark matter" before but knew nothing about it. And she didn't need to. She just needed the ranking science officer on board to sign off on it.

She sent the form down to sciences, and a few minutes later it came back with approval. They were ready to receive it from operations. Imas checked all the boxes in the form and signed it before sending it out. And then she moved onto the next.
