((ooc: Apologies for the delay. Been trying to help my best friend get through dealing with her hoarder mother’s passing and the drama/conflict with the rest of her family.))

((Holodeck 2, Masquerade Ball, USS Constitution-B))

Elias listened eagerly as more folks meandered in and some even ventured to the bar. Several of his usual serving staff were manning the place, almost entirely his holographic servers, bartenders and barbacks.

Kincaid: Well, yah look mighty fine, Counselor. Mah daughter’s here runnin’ things. Can’t miss her if’n ya see ‘er. She’s like ta be tha only one here that looks like Pocahontas was dunked in glitter. ::he chuckled:: She opted ta wear somethin’ traditional fer mah side of tha family. Lotsa sparkly feathers.

Ba'el: As I told Georgio when I arrived. One cannot have fireworks without a fire to light them.

Foster: This is true.

Kincaid: Don’t forget ta eat somethin’, you especially counselor. Absinthe can knock even a Klingon on their ass. Though I advise ya avoid any G’agh. From what I’m told those two don’t mix well. Makes ‘em squirm violently or somethin’.

Elias prided himself on havin’ all sort of delicacies and vittles ready for anyone who might want them but as with anyone, he had preferences that leaned more towards the well cooked spectrum of things.

Foster: Looks like I have a medical assistant tonight. I’ll take the help!

He chuckled slightly at that.

Ba'el: ::laughs:: I will make a note to avoid that. ::Affecting a Carolina Drawl:: Thank Ya kindly.

A loud guffaw emanated from the bartender when he heard the counselor’s drawl. The accent needed work but was pretty good.

Foster: Yes, let’s not have cleanup on Holodeck 2 called in. ::his blue eyes sparkled.::

Ba'el: How about you? Your outfit is very is also very eye catching.

Somehow, Elias was not surprised when Cade made a cape flourish. He would be surprised if the man hadn’t been involved in any of the theatrical performances at the Academy.

Foster: Thank you. It’s based off an old Earth theatrical play. I always did have a love of evocative costumes.

Elias listened with a chuckle while pouring several drinks for other new arrivals at the party. But he inevitably moved back down to where they all were.

Shimisi: That's certainly an astounding environment for a party!

Ba'el: It certainly is, isn't it. ::Looks at Shimisi's outfit:: And you look very handsome this evening Shimisi.

Foster: agreed!  Greetings Lieutenant!

Shimisi: Hello doctor. And Thank you Ba'el, you're absolutely gorgeous in that dress.

Kincaid: Howdy, pardner. Yer lookin’ mighty spiffy yerself.

Ba’el: I'm glad you could join us Shimisi. Drink?

Shimisi: Yes, of course! :: To Kincaid :: Your suit really shines and your colour election is awesome. It certainly makes you stand. What are you up to?

Foster: Oh, you know, the usual. Talking costumes, inspirations, and what drinks don’t mix with gagh.  Though that last one is all Elias.

Cue another guffaw from Elias.

Ba'el: I think you'll find the Klingon digestive system is a bit more robust than a human one.

Shimisi: I won't enter that challenge, I appreciate myself too much to loose to that bet.

Kincaid: Smart feller.

More folks sideled to the bar and he offered the newest arrival a smile and hat tip.

T'Seva: Everyone's responded to this so differently.

Foster: Howso, Commander?

T'Seva: Different ideas. Different interpretations. It's like a visible expression of IDIC.

Shimisi: You're right, that's one of the things that prompted me to enter Starfleet. So much to see, so much to experience, so much to discover, even about one simple topic, there's a bunch of ideas, beliefs and interpretations.

Kincaid: Couldn’t agree more pardner. It’s tha all that variety that makes tha Federation tha wonder it is.

T'Seva: I hope we aren't scaring the new crewmembers who aren't used to epic Connie parties.

Foster: Naw, they look fine…

Shimisi: Maybe some might still feel uneasy after all the shapeshifters things, but if everything goes right, this could be a good therapy for us all.

Ba’el: ::Nodding in agreement:: Agreed. Sometimes it's good to "Let our hair" down as the saying goes.

Kincaid: Ain’t a party like a Conny party, neither.

T'Seva: I actually did find my first one a little intimidating. Now...well...it's always something to explore, have fun with, and throw oneself into.

Foster: anything new is intimidating. And everyone responds different.  Whether that’s a first contact or a first party.

While Cade dropped that pearl of wisdom Elias stepped down the bar a little to pop open several beers from the cooler and hand them over to some lower deckers before he sidled back.

Shimisi: I'm all for first chances. It means the chance of discovery and learning.

Ba’el: Well said Shimisi. ::looks past the group for a brief moment:: And speaking of chances.....

Kincaid: Pardon?

Elias was a might confused until he followed where the counselor was looking and smirked at Jalana’s approach.

Rajel: Excuse me, Cade?

Foster: My Captain, my Commodore, what can I do for you?

Rajel: Can I steal you away for a moment? ::She asked him before briefly looking to the members of the group.:: If you don't mind.

Foster: I don’t mind.  ::he looked towards every else:: Do you all mind?

Ba'el: We don't mind at all Jalana. He's all yours.

Shimisi: Of course not,... we'll... remain here!

T'Seva: :: laughing :: Where else would we be?

With the biggest knowing smile on his face Elias shook his head and offered a slight tip of his hat.

Kincaid: Not at all darlin’, we’ll make do without grumpaw fer a spell.

Shimisi: I hope everything's okay…

Ba'el: They'll be fine Shimisi. After everything that happened so recently, I'm sure many people have gotten new perspectives on their lives.

T'Seva: She's plotting something.

Kincaid: ::he nodded conspiratorially towards T’Seva:: Absolutely.

Shimisi: Oh, I just hope it's nothing she might need from the CMO…

Ba'el: ::Toothy grin:: Well where's the fun in that?

Shimisi: I'll take your word for it. So, tell me, what can I expect from a party like this. I mean, there's a way through it, any kind of ritual, procedure or something is common knowledge except for those like me who are not familiar with masquerade balls?

Ba'el: I'm still new to this idea myself Shimisi. ::Motions to T'Seva:: She's been helping me to understand all this.

A quartet of crewmen and women approached the bar on the opposite side so he quickly stepped away to provide their drinks. Coincidentally one of them was celebrating their birthday today so he took a moment to offer congratulations as well.

T'Seva: All I know is that there is a point at which those wearing masks are supposed to simultaneously remove them. In a traditional ball that would happen at midnight local time. I think for this the right time might be when Jalana starts announcing ribbons, but...nobody told me. Other than that, it's just about mingling.

Shimisi: I'll try to have it in mind... It's good to have these from time to time. To mingle around is a great opportunity for me to know you all better. I'm still trying to loosen up a bit in these situations...

Ba'el: As Dr Sydney Freeman, one of my instructors at the Starfleet academy once said to us in class. "Ladies and Gentlemen, take my advice. Pull down your pants, and slide on the ice." It took me some time to realize what he meant.

Well that was a hell of a thing to hear walking back over but he got the gist and chuckled.

Kincaid: Just make sure ya don’t do that here. Pretty sure they just waxed the dance floor. Don’t need Cade havin’ ta patch anyone up fer slidin’ inta a wall.

T'Seva: I will say these events help ME loosen up.

Shimisi: Talking about loosen up,... :: looking at Ba'el :: Are you comfortable in that dress? It seems a bit heavy and, it's comfortable to move around? Somehow, I feel it's not exactly Klingon style, right?

Ba'el: ::Arches an eyebrow:: You think this is heavy? You should try wearing a Klingon Opera outfit sometime.

Shimisi: Oh, I like it, it looks really great on you, I was just wondering about it. As you can see, mine is pretty simple. :: changing his sight to T'Seva :: Yours is also great and eye catching. It took you long to decide on the design and make it?

T'Seva: Oh, we wandered around the Hinji Bazaar until we got some inspiration. Everything except the wings is just put together from there. So...longer time to decide, not long to make. It did take me three attempts to replicate the wings, though.

Shimisi: Oh, I like it, it looks really great on you, I was just wondering about it. As you can see, mine is pretty simple. :: changing his sight to T'Seva :: Yours is also great and eye catching. It took you long to decide on the design and make it?

Kincaid: Ya’ll definitely have great choices. Everyone’s a picture of stunnin’ as it were.

T'Seva: It's worth it. And I have it all holo-recorded, too, so I could re-create it later if I ever needed to.

Ba'el: That's definitely a good idea.

Shimisi: Also, it'll help you make some variations on that design, for another events or situations.

Ba'el: If you'll excuse me, I think I will go introduce myself to our new crewmembers

Kincaid: Good on ya, darlin’ and have fun.

Shimisi: Of course! :: They saw her moving away :: So, do you think we'll be asked to dance? With some of the outfits will be a bit difficult. I'm lucky I have a simple one.

T'Seva: Response

Kincaid: More than likely. But most songs are like ta be slower so folks don’t have ta worry about their costumes bein’ unruly.

He would assume. He had no idea what sort of playlist Georgio had for this but imagined if anyone would want to make sure folks had a chance to show off their costumes on the dancefloor it’d be the glitter goblin.

Shimisi: Elias, you've seen many parties, what kind are your favourites?

Kincaid: Oh, that’s a good question. Reckon we’ve had so many that it’s hard ta pick. I s’pose the ones I like most are the ones that follow the worst missions. Especially if’n we’ve lost folks prior, cause those are tha moments when folks need a bright light ta bring them back outta tha dark. And parties can do that.

Shimisi: Personally I'm thankful for others to plan parties. I'll be terrible at it.

Kincaid: It definitely takes a logistical mind ta manage everythin’ proper. Some parties are easy ta plan and some can be a nightmare. But it’s worth it every time if folks end up happy.

T'Seva: Response

Shimisi: I might be good with machines, they're logical, follow predictable patterns... people tend to be more chaotic and managing that requires... something else.

He couldn’t help but chuckle at that. It wasn’t an incorrect statement, especially when it came to Starfleet crews.

Kincaid: I call it gumption. ::he laughed:: Starfleet folks are a might bit like corrallin’ cats. Some wander a lot and are a pain ta herd, some have sharp claws and require proper protective wear an some just need treats.

Was it a perfect metaphor, perhaps not, but in Elias’ mind it was pretty close.

T'Seva/Shimisi: Response

Kincaid: Everyone has different tolerances fer bein’ around people. So I always like seein’ folks sidle out of their comfort zones ta connect with everyone. Even if they can only handle a few minutes at a time.

T'Seva/Shimisi: Response

Kincaid: I most definitely plan ta dance. Y’all might be surprised by this, but even with mah busted leg I have been know ta cut a rug with tha best of them.

Elias briefly held his hands up, one against his belly and the other in the air slightly as he danced in a quick side to side shimmy behind the bar.
