((Planet “Peekaboo”, Southern Hemisphere, runabout))
The interesting thing about meeting a species for the first – or second – or third – time was that you kept learning new things. New points of view. New frames of reference.
The annoying thing about meeting a species for the first – or second – or third – time was that you had a hard time communication those different ideas and a hard time seeing eye to eye.
Foster: all right. We have a bigger ship that is our home. This little ship is a vehicle. On our home we keep many plants. Some are because we like plants and they make our lives better, and some are for medicinal purposes.
S'Jenes: To second Commander Foster, this vessel isn't meant to be lived in. It's closer to a carriage than a home. On the larger ships, you'll find arboretums, gardens, places meant for growth. This vessel is merely a bridge between environments for us, not one of its own.
The Kameryans boggled at them as if this was completely unthinkable.
Avoo’na: But everything is connected so every environment is a bridge.
Jin'Tauri: You can’t expect them to understand, Avoo’na. They obviously don’t come from a society rooted in the weaving of their world. They don’t understand fire or water physics, or mineral and plant based medicine…
Said the hooded one that was very stuck in their own ways.
Cade could, in fact, understand. These were an elementally aligned peoples, and saw things based on their element. He was more malleable in his mind than his age would suggest.
Foster: I do know much about medicine. I am a doctor.
That he was proud of. It was his worldview.
S'Jenes: The Commander's training in that field is extensive. It demands precision and restraint.
Avoo'na: Yes, the healing arts take many years to master for Kameryans. ::they turned to him:: Is that how you became a Commander, t'gon?
Jin'Tauri: I don’t see the significance of connecting the two, but perhaps that is because I have spent my life underground and not on a ship.
Foster: I was a doctor first. Commander comes with experience.
He realized that Kameryans likely aged in a completely different manner than humans. His wrinkles might be akin to the crags of the stone – oriented Kameryans, or his silver hair might be standard for one of their species.
S'Jenes: The Commander's training is extensive, and healing is often a bridge between peoples.
Avoo'na: You send a healer rather than a fighter. To show that you are peaceful?
Cade, internally, knew he was a healer first, but also a fighter. But no one needed his commentary on that.
S'Jenes: In a sense, yes, we try to.
Jin'Tauri: Hmmph, your doctor is an accomplished fighter. Avoo’na might have missed it while they were dancing with death, but I saw more of a soldier than a doctor. Alien soldiers are not going to be welcomed easily into Kamyrian space.
Ah, or the hooded one was perceptive.
S'Jenes: Your warning is noted, and appreciated.
Avoo'na: We could use more doctors on Kamir, t'gon.
S'Jenes: That depends on whether we are invited.
He looked towards Jin’Tauri.
Foster: You are young in exploring the galaxy. I have been out here for many tens of years. I am a healer first, but a protector second. We are peaceful, but not everyone will respect that.
Jin'Tauri: Avoo’na, whatever you say, do not extend them an invitation to Kamir. That is well above both our stations.
S'Jenes: Your integration of plant systems into starship architecture...I would welcome that discussion another time.
Foster: And I know our Captain will offer our assistance if you need it. Travel safely.
He followed S’Jenes into the runabout, checking on Eze and Mec before getting into the pilot’s seat.
Foster: Let’s go home.
