((Bridge - USS Constitution-B))
Lieutenant Ba'el sat in the advisors chair to Jalana's left. The Constitution was on an errand to the world of Pelieus, and Jalana had decided on taking a shorter path through the Rigar nebula to try and save some time. Unfortunately, upon entering the nebula, the Constitution's sensors became disrupted by all the static discharge and fluctuations that were inherent in this type of spacial phenomenon. Ba'el quietly observed as the crew tried to make any adjustments to their systems that would enable them to get a clearer picture of what they were traveling through.
Rajel: Scanners?
T’Seva: Not getting anything, I'm afraid.
The Counselor looked on as Jalana seemed to accept that answer and gestured to T'Aven at the conn station.
Rajel: You heard it, you’ll have to fly manually.
T’Aven: Understood, Sir. Switching to manual controls.
Rajel: Indrid, use what little sensors we have to collect data about the nebula. Barely anyone has been down here far enough to get any information.
Yirah: Response
Ba'el pulled up information on recent efforts to scan nebula's on her display. She started looking for anything that might be helpful.
Rajel: =/\= Bridge to Engineering. I need you to try to improve our sensors. I know it’s difficult but I need to be able to see where we are flying. =/\=
Mingxing: =/\= Response =/\=
Ba'el was focused on her reading and did not notice Jalana standing up, at first. But the sudden peal of the alert tone brought her head up to look and see what had changed.
Rajel: Full stop.
T’Aven: Engines disengaged.
Rajel: Can you make out anything on the screen?
T'Seva: I think there might be some kind of...clump? I'm seeing an opaque area.
Lystra: Right? It’s like one of those visual illusion pictures from Earth you have to cross your eyes slightly to see the hidden image.
Ba'el: ::looking at the main display:: An asteroid perhaps?
Anyone on the bridge: Response
Rajel: Anyone got an idea what we’re seeing?
T'Seva: I think it's a rogue planet.
Lystra: Sweet Stars….I think, she’s right.
Ba'el: But how could it end up here?
Anyone on the bridge: Response
Rajel: What? There wasn’t anything mentioned on the charts when we prepared the flight path. ::She turned to the screen again.:: Can you scan it?
Ba'el watched the interplay between Jalana and T'Seva. Clearly, whatever this was, they would need to check it out before continuing on their way.
T'Seva: Negative. I still can't get the sensors calibrated for this mess.
Lystra: Same, ma’am. The nebula isn’t helping things but there’s definitely mass to it. I’m able to discern a gravity well…I think.
Ba'el thought about how this seemed familiar to her. A recent report from the EMpire had crossed her screen and she recalled it mentioning another planet hiding in a nebula. She turns to her display and calls up the information while the others work.
Anyone on the bridge: Response
Rajel: =/\= Rajel to Diz’mim. Come to the bridge, we found a... surprise. =/\=
Ch'Nilmani: =/\= Response =/\=
Rajel: T’Aven pull us back a bit, maybe we can see it better then.
The image on the screen diminished slowly as the Constitution backed away.
Rajel: It takes a moment to see, but have a look.
Ch'Nilmani: Response
Rajel: What do you think, Dizzy. Do we have time to check it out? ::She grinned cheekily::
Ch'Nilmani: Response
T'Seva: There's a lot of energy in this nebula. Just...pointing that out.
Lystra: You say that, but it’s still maybe a planet. A tiny one…or a moon. Which are only slightly less as bad as a planet.
Ba'el: ::Looking up from her display:: This reminded me of an excerpt from a reported incident in the Klingon Empire.
Anyone on the Bridge: Response
Rajel/Ch’Nilmani: Response
Ba'el: Apparently, on a previously unknown world located in a nebula known as the Klach D'kel Bracht to the Klingon Empire, also known as the "Briar patch" to the Federation, a previously unknown colony of discommendated Klingons was discovered. So, it is possible that this might be the location of another such hidden colony.
Lystra: We should be careful though, I recommend that we launch a class three probe to see if we can get a clearer view of that thing. Right now the sensors are having a hard time. One moment it shows as having a weak atmosphere, then a thick one, then it doesn't have one at all. A probe or two might help us compensate for the nebula. A class three and a class four probe would cover the stellar and planetary possibilities.
Anyone on the Bridge: Response
Rajel/Ch’Nilmani: Response
Lystra: I know not many have come through here before but you’d think Starfleet’s initial stellar cartographers would’ve noticed signs of Peekaboo here.
Ba'el: The previously undiscovered colony world Ba'ku had gone undiscovered by the Federation and the Empire for nearly a century before finally being found. So it isn't impossible for this to happen again I would think?
