He went back to the comm signal enhancer and rotated the frequency of the signal.
Perax: =/\= Perax to Constitution, can you hear me? =/\= I can’t reach the ship yet. The signal is getting reflected back to the planet.
Yirah: Hmm... could we at least get into contact with the other away team? I know that we were able to onboard the ship but we were still relatively close at that point since they followed us through the storm.
Maramox: It would be nice to see if they are getting similar… Readings.
Lystra: It might be worth a try. Given that storm we passed through we’d probably sooner hug a Borg drone without getting assimilated than reach the Conny. But Cade’s team is on this side of things so it hopefully will be easier.
Perax: I can set up a second channel and use the atmosphere to reflect the signal to where Doctor Foster’s team is. It will take some trial and error to find where he landed. Do you think he was serious when he said they would find a beach?
Lystra/Maramox/Yirah: response
Perax wasn’t jealous of the other team if they did find a beach, but if he could narrow his search for them down to coastlines, it would make his job slightly easier.
Yirah: I don't know. This planet does have a powerful magnetic field though.
Lystra: Could that be what’s causing the storm to be so angry and widespread?
Perax: I would think so. The storm is more severe, but the effects of the nebula and radiation would be less. It might be why some of those plants. ::He pointed vaguely in the distance:: seem so big.
Maramox: Why don’t we look around our area a little further. Maybe there’ll be a spot that will let us reach their comms.
Lystra had already set up two thirds of the perimeter sensors and was back near the runabout.
Lystra: When in doubt, seek high ground. ::she looked up the valley wall:: We’re in a valley, but that ridgeline behind the runabout might work. Looks to be about, a kilometer maybe two, from here. ::she looked back at them:: No one goes anywhere alone. If we have to split up it’s going to be in pairs only. We don’t know what sort of dangers are around yet.
Perax caught the glance Lystra gave Yirah, but didn’t know what it was about. He narrowly avoided pointing out that Yirah was technically a pair just in himself.
Yirah: response
Perax: I don't plan on going anywhere quickly
Maramox: Right, we should stay together. The plant life doesn’t seem to move; but we haven’t seen any signs of animal life. If there is. Animal life. That is.
Lystra: There might be, aren’t there very few planets that have only flora and no fauna?
Yirah/Maramox: Response
Perax: Possibly, but I’d be more willing to bet that our landing scared nearby wildlife into hiding. They’ll probably come back in a few hours.
Perax followed Lystra back in the runabout and began replicating replacements for the hull armour segments damaged by the electrical storm.
Lystra: Well, the perimeter is in place so if anything or anyone approaches the runabout we’ll know it. I’ve set them to make subaudible alerts and also send them to both our tricorders and comm badges. Just in case.
Perax belatedly linked his tricorder and commbadge to the perimeter alarms so it would know to ignore him.
Yirah/Maramox: Response
Lystra: A precaution. The alarms are in ranges most non sapient species can hear by design. It’s not perfect since some species hear better than others, but we don’t know if there’s any animals here or even if there are people. Felt best to at least try and be discreet, you know, for the Prime Directive.
oO Yeah, nothing like setting off blaring alarms when trying to keep a low profile. Look over here! Iron Age civilization, look over here! Something really bizarre that you should probably ignore is over here! Oo
Quickly, Perax finished gathering the parts he made, and somewhat clumsily tried to rush them to the nacelle. If they did decide to go exploring, he didn’t want to be the reason someone missed out, yet he couldn’t leave the runabout without having it ready to endure the storm either.
Perax: Give me a few minutes to properly get the nacelle plates back together.
Yirah/Lystra/Maramox: Response
He set the pieces out in an organized manner and got his hyperspanner out and began to reassemble the armour plates.
Perax: Before we go out hiking, did anyone pack the trail mix?
Yirah/Lystra/Maramox: Response
Perax: ::he frowned:: Well, If I must eat field rations. Trail mix would be better. I’m about halfway done.
Yirah/Lystra/Maramox: Response
Moving swiftly, he secured the plates so they interlocked, before sealing them down. Finally he finished.
Perax: Alright,I’ve mended her wing, and the Little Crow is ready to fly again. Let me gather the signal enhancer and we can see if another spot is better for it.
Moving swiftly, he secured the plates so they interlocked, before sealing them down. Finally he finished.
