(( Engineering ))
Red alert always was high time in Engineering. As soon as the light
and klaxon jumped alive the whole department jumped into action,
manned the stations and began to spread out the ship to make sure
nothing would be out of order for too long. S'Rrrell liked this
level of activity, though they also liked when it was quiet and more
of a meditative state of work. Nothing of that state was there now.
The ship was shaking here and there, alerts came in, systems that
needed more power, rerouting, repair... everyone was busy. That
included the Caitian, who currently was half underneath a console
that had flickered a few times after the latest hit and did not stop
flickering after.
Shimisi: Maybe we can set a narrow transporter beam to the station.
We can't boost their shields from here, but we can send repair teams
with parts to make repairs to the shield systems. It might give them
at least a brief respite, enough for the ship to hold off the
attackers.
S'Rrrrell: If you can sparrre teams.
They called out from underneath the console, tail tightly wrapped
around their leg so nobody would accidentally step on it.
Shimisi: I'll relay the possibility to the bridge. =/\= Shimisi to
Zaka =/\=
Since that was not addressed at them any more, S'Rrrell focused back
on their work. Once they were done they climbed out again and
checked the console, relieved to find it back working and called
out.
S'Rrrrell: Console 5 back in order!
Engineer: Can you check on 9, Parker mentioned it acting up before
he had to rush out.
The Caitian grumbled slightly. It was normal that someone would be
called out to help somewhere else, but right now it felt annoying.
They raised a hand as a sign that they had heard and grabbed their
toolbox to head over. They hadn't even run the full diagnose yet
when they heard a voice enter that made their ears twitch in
confusion.
Lida: Hey! Sorry for the delay. Damage on Deck 6. How are we doing?
Ever so slowly the Caitian raised their head, their tail twitched
and a low meow escaped their mouth.
Shimisi: Holding but not much more. They're overloading the shields
and we've had some EPS ruptures.
Lida: Has anyone taken damage control steps? I know the interim
chief is in medic bay right now.
Shimisi: We're on it. We're also preparing some worker drones to
help on the outpost in case the bridge wants to transport them
there.
Lida: Excellent! You're handling everything very well, Lieutenant.
For the whole time S'Rrrell stared at the Bajoran, they hadn't seen
in... weeks? The chief either had just been here whenever they had
looked for her or worked somewhere deep on the bowels of the ship.
It should not be such a big deal to see one's chief, but it was in
this case. By the great white... how bad must things be if the
never-there-Chief came out?
The ship shook as something hit them, luckily S'Rrrrell had a very
good sense of balance. A shifting of their tail and leg and they
were good. But that shake brought them back into the presence. As
much as Lida being around was stunning them, they had work to do.
The diagnostic had run through and some contacts may have loosened
up which meant they had to go into the console guts to tighten them
back up. Climbing underneath to open the panel they once more draped
their tail around their leg.
They hears something in the background about energy rising and
tachyons, but focused on their own work. A sound began to ring in
their ears. Something beeping without interruption, growing louder.
It did not make the impression that others heard it, or at least
they didn't react.
Shimisi: Should be any time...
When Shimisi suddenly stopped talking S'Rrrell looked up and saw him
collabse on the floor. They raised their hand to their badge with
the plan to call sick bay.
S'Rrrell: =/\= Engineering to - =/\=
They didn't get any further than that. The ship shook violently, the
insides of the console they were still under sparked and practically
exploded into their furry face. Not a massive explosion like a bomb
or something, but you know - dear reader - like a console explosion.
With a hissing growl, S'Rrrell's hands jumped up to protect their
face though it was already too late. There were clearly burns that
felt like hot knives digging into their flesh.
Lida: Response
