Jin'Tauri: Your ship. I suggest you get on it and launch.

Foster: Don’t worry, we’ll leave you to your rocks.

S'Jenes: response

Avoo'na: Do your species not fight each other?

Foster: We disagree.  But our Federation has over 300 worlds of different species that have come together for mutual assistance and exploration.

S'Jenes: response

Avoo'na: Must say, t'gons, for so many species in your Star Fleet I would have expected a nicer looking ship. ::jokingly:: Looks like a soyora.

Foster: I think it’s function over form for these shuttles.

Jin’Tauri: =\/= Ta'an, we have escorted our visitors back to their shuttle ship. =\/=

Ta'an: =\/= response, if any =\/=

An absurd thought occurred to Jin’Tauri.

oO I could ask them to look for a non-radioactive rock that glows from within, but would it be proper after nearly killing them? Would allowing aliens to take up the quest for Kamir’s lost treasure be appropriate? It would prove their friendly intent, but would it detract from the gem’s rediscovery? Oo

They decided that a straightforward request was unwise and likely to be rejected by the loud one, though perhaps pointy-ear might agree. They downloaded the information on the Jin’Tauri Gem onto a data crystal, and hid the action by tapping the comm.

Avoo'na followed them onto the shuttle, looking around.

Avoo'na: Why do you not have plants on your ship?

Jin’Tauri glanced around the compartment in a feigned disinterest. They would have told Avoo’na to get off the shuttle except that it was a good distraction from them.

oO They obviously don’t value plants, rock, water, or fire based systems like we do. The aliens would probably scratch their heads in wonder if they saw a Ular photosynthesis engine. Oo

Foster: It is a small ship. We keep plants on larger ships.

S'Jenes: If your vessel does have plants, I would love to learn the benefits of it.

They removed the data crystal and awaited a chance to “drop” it into the shuttle ship.

Avoo'na: What? I thought you valued curiosity.

Foster: It is a small ship. We keep plants on larger ships.

S'Jenes: If your vessel does have plants, I would love to learn the benefits of it.

curiosity?

Foster: I am quite curious to know how you integrate plants into your ships.

S’Jenes: ::to Avoo'na:: Observation is a valid form of curiosity. ::to Foster:: I am as well, I haven't encountered a species that has before.

Jin'Tauri: Our unified ships have plants, built into the systems. One example is that data cables are made from kareckto vines. ::To Avoo’na:: it’s probably time you left their shuttle.

Avoo'na: You don't go into a koewoih den and then act surprised when it follows you.

Foster: all right. We have a bigger ship that is our home. This little ship is a vehicle. On our home we keep many plants. Some are because we like plants and they make our lives better, and some are for medicinal purposes.

S'Jenes: To second Commander Foster, this vessel isn't meant to be lived in. It's closer to a carriage than a home. On the larger ships, you'll find arboretums, gardens, places meant for growth. This vessel is merely a bridge between environments for us, not one of its own.

oO That settled it; these aliens were bizarre. Oo

Avoo’na: But everything is connected so every environment is a bridge.

Jin'Tauri: You can’t expect them to understand, Avoo’na. They obviously don’t come from a society rooted in the weaving of their world. They don’t understand fire or water physics, or mineral and plant based medicine…

Foster: I do know much about medicine.  I am a doctor.

They huffed at being interrupted.

S'Jenes: The Commander's training in that field is extensive. It demands precision and restraint.

Avoo'na: Yes, the healing arts take many years to master for Kameryans.

Avoo'na: Is that how you became a Commander, t'gon?

Jin'Tauri: I don’t see the significance of connecting the two, but perhaps that is because I have spent my life underground and not on a ship.

Foster: response

S'Jenes: The Commander's training is extensive, and healing is often a bridge between peoples.

oO A doctor with extensive knowledge and a desire to bridge people. I don’t know whether this increases my suspicions that they discovered more about us than they said, or relieves me that there might be help for our people. Oo

Avoo'na: You send a healer rather than a fighter. To show that you are peaceful?

S'Jenes: In a sense, yes, we try to.

Jin'Tauri: Hmmph, your doctor is an accomplished fighter. Avoo’na might have missed it while they were dancing with death, but I saw more of a soldier than a doctor. Alien soldiers are not going to be welcomed easily into Kamyrian space.

S'Jenes: Your warning is noted, and appreciated.

Avoo'na: We could use more doctors on Kamir, t'gon.

Foster: response

S'Jenes: That depends on whether we are invited.

Jin'Tauri: Avoo’na, whatever you say, do not extend them an invitation to Kamir. That is well above both our stations.

Pointy-ear walked to the door of the shuttle.

S'Jenes: Your integration of plant systems into starship architecture...I would welcome that discussion another time.

Foster: response

As the two aliens got onboard. Jin’Tauri “tripped” and caught themself on the hatch of the shuttle ship. They casually dropped the data crystal with the information on the gem inside.

oO There. If they find the gem and return it to us, they will have proven themselves a friend to Kamir and will have done much to cement further unity among Kamyrian people. Oo

The shuttle doors closed, and Jin’Tauri began to walk away in order to give the craft some distance.

Avoo’na: I don’t know about you, t’gon, but I find this Star Fleet much more interesting than the Pakleds.

Jin’Tauri: Interesting. Perhaps, but also more potentially dangerous. These people are competent.

Avoo'na: They might help us with our plague too.

Jin’Tauri: They might, but it might be too dangerous to ask them for help. I still don’t trust them. ::straightening up and pausing for a moment:: I want to find something more useful than pyrite and obsidian to bring back to Kamir. We’ll just wait until the aliens leave.

Avoo'na: response

Jin’Tauri: I know our government just wants the Hranyas, but there is a whole world of resources here we could use. I want to personally add something important to the results of the mission.

Avoo’na: response
