PNPC Rol'Q - Rol'Q Dolittle: Animal Whisperer

Rol’Q sat down on the floor in front of the window looking into the tank.

Sarek: Sarek chose to be called Sarek after hearing Vulcan crew talking about how smart and wise Sarek is! Sarek is part of the crew! Well, Sarek thinks! Sarek helps crew navigate space!! ::He rolled in place again:: Because dolphins are good swimmers and moving in oceans and space is like oceans, but with stars and dust and things! ::He quickly and excitedly added:: OH! And Sarek is also Ambassandoor for crew. Sarek got to have his own shinies and go to another planet and swim in an alien ocean with big whale Xindi!!!

Rol’Q: Woah, that’s cool! I wanted to go down to see the big ocean too. But I couldn’t go.

Aunt Ana had said that it was “for the best” that he didn’t get to go. She was probably lying to make him feel better. It was an underwater adventure with sea monsters. And he heard her telling Savok that everyone who went on the mission was really happy. Probably had such a good time!

Sarek: Is Rowlk part of crew?

Rol’Q crossed his arms and pouted. He wasn’t a part of the crew, he was just along for the ride.

Rol’Q: No… ::Rol’Q slumped down a bit.:: I just live on the ship. My Aunt Ana works in sick bay. And Uncle Savok works in the garden. But he’s not in Starfleet. He’s a teacher, I think. Back on Vulcan, anyway.

Sarek: Vulcan! Other Sarek’s birth home! Did Rowlk grow up there too!? What’s Vulcan like?

Rol’Q: Yep! I grew up there! It’s really hot and sandy. My mommy and daddy and grandparents lived there. Sometimes we went sand-sledding. But spaceships are a lot cooler than Vulcan.

Dolphin Sarek was named after Vulcan Sarek, but he probably wouldn’t like Vulcan. There wasn’t lots of water. And Vulcans didn’t even get excited about going to the beach. His SoSnI' had lived on Vulcan for her whole life, and she didn’t even know how to swim. If Sarek ever wanted to visit he would need a big rolling tank of water.

Sarek: ::He bobbed his head in agreement:: Yes! Starships are climb ate controlled! Much cooler than deserts! ::He looked at Rowlk:: Do Rowlk’s parents still live on Vulcan?

Rol’Q: Their ship got in an accident. So I live with my aunt and uncle now.

Sarek: Sarek understand. But Rowlk has awnt and unkle still! Rowlk just has a different pod than Rowlk had before. 

All the talk of how he got there and wasn’t part of the crew was really sad. So he tried to think of something happier. And there was an idea starting to form in his head. Sarek seemed like a really smart dolphin, an ambassandoor, even! Maybe if Sarek recommended him to be part of the crew, that would help. There had to be something that he could help with. Maybe firing the weapons? No, they probably wouldn’t let him do that. He could fly maybe. It didn’t seem that hard to do. Just push the right buttons.

Rol’Q: Oh, I have an idea! ::Rol’Q raised his hand, like he was in class:: You’re pretty smart, Mr. Sarek. Do you think you could talk to the captain for me. I would love to be part of the crew! My teacher says I am very smart too.

Well, sometimes she said that. Other times she said it was bad to argue with his classmates, or that he shouldn’t sing Klingon opera so loud. Loud was the whole point! Saying to sing Klingon opera quietly was like telling him to play music without any instruments. That was just silly.

Sarek: Ooooo, Sarek like that! Pod Mother is the bestest! ::He swam in a tight circle excitedly then pressed his nose to the tank:: Did you know that Pod Mother already knows Sarek!!! 

Bengali: Oh not again….

When Rol’Q first heard that, he looked around the lab to see who had said that. He was sure that he was about to be in trouble. But nobody was there but the dolphins. It must have been one of them.

Rol’Q: I did not know that! But I guess it isn’t surprising. I don’t know her yet. She’s probably real busy. But if you talk to her, maybe I can be a part of the ship!

Sarek: Sarek confused though. Rowlk is already on Cawnee. But Rowlk’s not part of pod yet? ::The dolphin’s maw opened and closed slowly while he worked it out:: Oooh, so Rowlk is guest like Zindee were but Rowlk stays longer? 

Rol’Q: I… don’t know. When we went to my aunt’s wedding, we stayed in guest rooms. I don’t think I’m guest. But I’m not crew.

It was weird. He was a not-a-guest guest. Guests only stayed for a bit. But he lived on the ship now.

Sarek: ::He chittered:: Sarek can ask if Rowlk can join pod! Everyone in pod does something for the pod. What can Rowlk do?!!

Rol’Q: Thank you! I can do tricks with my dog. His name is Ug’yel. It’s Vulcan for sun because his fur is shiny and gold. I’m learning how to paint from my uncle. Oooh! And I can play piano. Kinda. And now I put dishes back in the replicator. ::Smiling proudly:: Without being asked.

Sometimes. Sometimes he still needed to be reminded.

Dara: Meow!

Rol’Q looked behind him for the source of the meowing. His eyes lit up and he got an even wider smile than he already had. A cat had come to visit the dolphin lab too. Rol’Q’s own personal field trip was already proving to be much more exciting than the school’s one.

Sarek: Response

Rol’Q: Hello kitty-kat! It’s nice to meet you.

He stayed low to the ground, slowly extending a hand in front of the cat for her to inspect. That was how to say hi to a cat.

Dara: :: satisfied :: Meow.

Sarek: Response

Rol’Q: You’re such a cute cat. Did you come to visit Sarek too?

It seemed like Sarek was pretty famous with the crew. Maybe he was the only one who didn’t know him. Why wouldn’t the cat come to hang out with Sarek too?

Rol’Q: I didn’t know there were so many animals on board. This is so cool! I should sneak away from field trips more.

Rol’Q: Hi kitty ::He reached out to pick up the cat:: Are you part of the crew too? Or are you like me?

Probably not just like him. Ug’yel didn’t have to go to school or clean his room or practice his handwriting like Rol’Q did. But the cat didn’t seem as talkative as Sarek. Either the translators didn’t know how to speak cat, or the kitty-cat didn’t speak. Plus, wouldn’t the cat need special little computer panels programmed for its paws?
