((Syraya, Southern Hemisphere))
With everyone firing at once, the Taznakrtra finally tuned back towards its hole and fled back downwards into the darkness.
Avoo'na: We did it!
Jin’Tauri: Well, that’s done! Now, we deal with the problem that was before that foul creature came out of the ground.
They lifted the mining laser back in the direction of the loud one.
Foster: Are you sure you want to do this?
S’jenes: ::faces Jin'Tauri:: I would advise against escalating hostilities. We have just demonstrated the benefits of cooperation. Renewed conflict would prove...inefficient.
Avoo'na: What are you doing!?
Foster: They’re not sure you want to do this.
S’jenes: Commander, I sense hostility but lethal force may be unwarranted at present.
Ta'an: =\/= Fenix Ignus, Ta'an to ground teams. We have returned. What is your status? =\/=
Utan: =\/= We've just made contact with some aliens. They've been... exploring the place =\/=
Jin’Tauri: =\/= We have met with some meddlesome members of the aliens too. I was just about to eliminate them. =\/=
Avoo'na: =\/= The aliens have already agreed to leave. This doesn't need to end in a fight. =\/=
Ta'an: =\/= Yes, we made contact... a ship in orbit. It appears the people on that ship have made contact with our kind before. Positive contact. =\/=
Kol’Mana: =\/= What kind of contact? =\/=
Jin’Tauri: =/\= positive. As in confirmed or as in non-hostile? =/\=
Ta'an: =\/= The latest contact was two years ago and ended in joining a naming ceremony for an Ular child. =\/=
oO a child naming ceremony. That would be a friendly event Oo
Utan: =\/= One here told me the same... are we in good terms with them? =\/=
Avoo'na: =\/= Sounds like peaceful contact to me, t'gon. =\/=
That was the question, and they waited for the answer.
Ta'an: =\/= They did not attempt to return fire. It appears to be that we did not want to attack us. =\/=
Jin’Tauri grumbled, but lowered the mining laser. Pushing a button on their wrist computer, they retracted the adxe.
Jin’Tauri: It seems that we are not to kill you. At least not yet.
Avoo'na: =\/= We will accompany the aliens back to their ship. Unless you had other orders t'gon? =\/=
Ta'an: =\/= I have not at this time. I will confere with N'bel before contacting you with orders. For now keep doing that. =\/=
Jin’Tauri: =\/= If I must. =\/=
Avoo'na: =\/= Alright let us know. =\/=
Avoo'na: Let's return to your ship.
Foster: Let’s. As I said we’re willing to go and leave you alone.
S’jenes: We will withdraw in accordance with your leadership's directive and file appropriate navigational maps to prevent further intrusion.
Jin’Tauri: ::they muttered with sarcasm:: Sure. I’ll believe that one.
Avoo'na: It occurs to me, t'gons, that we don't even know each other's names. My name is Avoo'na-letket'ra Petryr.
Foster: Avoo'na-letket'ra Petryr. ::Despite his tension he had enough discipline to relax a bit and offer a diplomatic nod.:: I am glad to meet you. I am Cade Foster.
S'Jenes: S'jenes, Son of Jorel... Science Officer, your assistance in subduing the creature was...effective.
Jin'Tauri: Jin’Tauri Noram
They did not know these aliens, and so felt no need to expand further.
Foster: As we said before, we did not know of the existence of this planetoid. Our Federation is united in a desire to explore and understand.
Jin'Tauri: Exploration inevitably precedes expansion.
There was no malice in the statement. It was merely a statement of fact as they knew it. They continued to walk to the side of the group.
S'Jenes: Our scans confirm this world exhibits astrophysical anomalies inconsistent with standard planetary formation models. Such phenomena naturally invites investigation. I second Commander Foster, Our presence here was purely scientific, not territorial.
Foster: This is a planet that sustains itself, without a star. That in and of itself is curious. You people know of curiosity?
Jin'Tauri: Curiosity is a dangerous thing. It is good practice to never let your curiosity cause you to extend yourself further than you can draw yourself back.
They hoped the aliens took the hint. That they still did not trust them. Though, they didn’t think their hints were all that subtle.
S'Jenes: Curiosity is a catalyst for advancement. The lesson I have learned from this is the distinction lies in how it is exercised and whether that exercise is tempered with respect. Curiosity, when disciplined, is indistinguishable from survival. When undisciplined, it becomes intrusion. We will make sure ours remains the former.
Jin’Tauri was considering changing their mind about one thing. Pointy-ear might actually be the noisier of the two, or at least the most talkative.
Jin'Tauri: I’m sure it makes sense to your culture.
S'jenes: It is not our intent to interfere further. However, the organism we encountered suggests this region is not as isolated as it may appear.
Jin'Tauri: The Taznakrtra is not a native species. It is found on several nearby worlds, but it doesn’t have the rock like chitin or massive size that it has here.
Avoo'na/Foster: response
They flinched and twitched their mining laser when pointy-ear used a device. They recognized that it wasn’t a weapon and tried to relax again.
S'jenes: Subsurface readings indicate an extensive tunnel network. The creature's retreat path remains active although it is increasing distance from our position.
Jin’Tauri had nothing to say about that since it was to be expected. Most creatures don’t particularly like it when their food fights back.
Avoo'na/Foster: response
S'jenes: Commander, absent transporter capability, I recommend we return to our shuttle and reassess orbital conditions from there.
Foster: response
Jin'Tauri: As long as you go and leave me to my rocks. There is much work I need to do, and chasing you two has lost me too much time.
Avoo'na: response
S'jenes: We will not approach further installations or conduct additional scans without your explicit consent first.
Jin’Tauri merely sniffed in an aloof manner.
Avoo'na: response
S'jenes: =/\= Ensign S'jenes to Constitution-B. Iaonaie crew intact. Indigenous species confirmed. Hostile engagement de-escalated. =/\=
They entered the clearing in which the runabout had landed. Jin’Tauri still thought it still looked like a soyora.
((OOC: A Kamyrian slug like creature))
Jin'Tauri: Your ship. I suggest you get on it and launch.
Avoo'na/S’Jenes/Foster: response
An absurd thought occurred to Jin’Tauri.
oO I could ask them to look for a non-radioactive rock that glows from within, but would it be proper after nearly killing them? Would allowing aliens to take up the quest for Kamir’s lost treasure be appropriate? It would prove their friendly intent, but would it detract from the gem’s rediscovery? Oo
They decided that a straightforward request was unwise and likely to be rejected by the loud one, though perhaps pointy-ear might agree. They downloaded the information on the Jin’Tauri Gem onto a data crystal, and hid the action by tapping the comm.
Jin’Tauri: =\/= Ta'an, we have escorted our visitors back to their shuttle ship. =\/=
Ta'an: =\/= response, if any =\/=
They removed the data crystal and awaited a chance to “drop” it into the shuttle ship.
Avoo'na/S’Jenes/Foster: response
As the two aliens got onboard. Jin’Tauri “tripped” and caught themself on the hatch of the shuttle ship. They casually dropped the information on the gem inside.
oO There. If they find the gem and return it to us, they will have proven themselves a friend to Kamir and will have done much to cement further unity among Kamyrian people. Oo
Avoo'na/S’Jenes/Foster: response
