(( Bridge - USS Constitution-B ))

Fuse: =/\= Theseus to Constitution. You win. Five souls ready for transport. =/\=

Rajel: Get them out. Now! I don't care where you drop them, get security there.

Only five? Lazarus checked sensor readings. Surely there were more than five people on the Theseus. Lifesign scans indicated a crew of about 17. So where were the rest? Why wouldn’t they beam over??

Sirn: ::tapping at his console:: Transport complete. Five lifesigns brought aboard and placed in a vacant cargo hold on Deck 4.

Rajel: Back off, maximum impulse, try to stay between them and the Stardrive section. Keep power on the shields.

In a brilliantly tragic display, the hull of the Theseus rapidly began to glow. It ruptured, exploding outwards in a succession of detonations. A shockwave ripped through the nebula, toward the saucer.

Nugra: Brace for impact.

As the shockwave bore down on the Constitution, Lazarus utterly disassociated as he began to process that he just killed a dozen people. The limpness of his body proved beneficial in the rocking of the ship, leaving him in his seat.

Nugra: Well...That as a ride.

Rajel: Call Saveron.

(( OOC: Lazarus is in his own head on the bridge, and not hearing the conversations around him. ))

The outside world faded away as in the din of his thoughts and feelings overwhelmed him.

He had crossed a line, something he never thought he’d have to do. And the way he did it felt so… filthy. He weaponized research, actively perverting its purpose to spread death. The gravimetric sail was supposed to revolutionize sublight travel, and drastically cutting cost and complexity. When complete, it could help colonies far from main supply lines keep their energy and manufacturing costs low for inter-system travel.

But once confronted with a threat, he immediately thought of how to kill. If he had thought hard enough, or even for just a second, maybe he could have come up with something else. Something that would have ended the conflict, but not killed a dozen people. Maybe, if he had held his tongue, someone else would have come up with something better.

That wasn’t how it happened, though. And he had to find peace with that, and accept the repercussions.
