(( USS CONSTITUTION – Stellar Cartography lab ))

The science officers were absorbed by their work and trying to make heads or tails about what’s messing up with the sensors. It seemed that finally they’re getting to some results in their investigations.

Shimisi: How's it going?

SydT: Well, I think.

So'Mior: We have discovered an unusual concentration of chrondite dust that is not forming a larger mass.  This could be connected to our sensor issues.

Mingxing tends to agree with that assessment. In fact, anything that goes off of what a Nebula of this class has been studied, was worth to check out and be considered as a trigger of their problems.

Shimisi: Motha and S'Rrrrell informed me that something is covering the sensors, maybe even part of the hull. Does any of your analysis show if it has any magnetic properties?

   So’Mior offered a nod.

SydT: Yes, at least so far.

So'Mior: The chrondite dust appears to maintain the same heavily magnetic properties that it has in a larger mass, proportional to the size of the particle.

Shimisi: If there's a way we can repel those, it might improve our chances. Maybe we can use, either the shields or deflector to move them away and clear our path.

So'Mior: I would caution against using the shield without precise attunement. If we introduce energy without attuning it we could encourage the chrondite to bond with the hull of the Constitution which would likely have a detrimental effect. The deflectors are a distinct possibility, but may have a more beneficial preventative effect.

SydT: It might be possible.

He didn't knew SydT so he kept it as professional as possible. He hadn't had time to study her features well as he use to do with every new officer he worked with, but there will be time for that. However, he thought for a split second that this was the first Andorian he saw with braids.

Shimisi: Okay, so shields could be a problem for the chrondrite issue.

Motha/S'Rrrrell: Response

So’Mior: In the best-case scenario we would replicate a section of the hull and introduce it to the sample containment area. Allow it to gather chrondite particles and then run energy tests to see what effect various shield modulation frequencies have on the chrondite.

SydT: How much time do we have?

Shimisi: Not much, from what the captain said, she needed us to be operational asap.

Motha/S'Rrrrell: Response

The computer beeped acknowledging that transmission of some data. As Mingxing checked it, it was Ba'el giving them some data of what's on the hull and sensors.

Ba'el: =/\= Motha, S'Rrrrell, SydT, I hope you got what you needed, because I am out of time.=/\=

So’Mior: We have enough sample matter to conduct the experiments we need. But the more time we have to determine how to remove the chrondite, the safer it will be to attempt and test those theories.

Shimisi: Seems that we're running out of time.

SydT`: Response

Motha/S'Rrrrell/(Ba’el): Response

Mingxing looked at the others as the news of a ship appearing was relayed.

So’Mior: How soon do you require a theory to test removing the chrondite dust?

Shimisi: About fifteen minutes ago. :: sighs :: We have the spectrographic data and the lab sensors. Can we stablish a polarized field that could repel those particles?

SydT`: Response

Shimisi: We don't need it to  be accurate or precise, just enough to push it off. If we find the frequency, it'll be just a matter of energy levels wich I can work out quickly.

So'Mior/SydT: Response

Shimisi: Maybe we can try a multiphasic scan and compare results with what we've done up 'till now.

So'Mior/SydT: Response

All of a sudden, the comm system came to life and the voice of the Commodore addressed him directly.

Rajel: =/\= Rajel to Mingxing, please tell me you made progress, we got visitors and our shields keep failing as soon as we bring them up. =/\=

Shimisi: =/\= We've made some. So'Mior and SydT tell me that the shields might add energy to the Chrodrite particles, making them more energetic and adhering to our hull. If you have to use them, try a lower energy level and as tight to the ship as possible. =/\=

Rajel/Bridge: Response

Shimisi: =/\= I'll move to engineering to provide you what I can in terms of shields and tactical systems. If science get anything to get rid of the particles, I'll see to be implemented inmediately. =/\=

Rajel: Response

( OOC: I assume this ends here since the ship attacked )

Shimisi: See if you can get the energy threshold of the particles. Then maybe we can set the hull's EM frequency to repel them so we can get sensors and maybe shields back.

So'Mior/SydT: Response

With a quick nod, he rushed out of the lab to get back to engineering and assess the status of the systems himself. Of course his crewmates will handle things, but given the situation and that they're under attack, his place was there.

( Engineering - few moments later )

Mingxing entered main engineering and saw the crew working with the power systems.

Shimisi: What's our status?

Hexa/Peta: Response

Shimisi: Understood. Let's transfer power from Warp drive and cargo transporters to SIF. Since shields seem to be compromised, we'll try to strengthen the hull.

The power distribution network on the Constitution had many redundant systems and that was one of the things that made the ship so durable and reliable. While more compact ships don't have that luxury, the Galaxy class has enough room to accomodate some emergency EPS manifolds to provide energy to key systems even when backups are compromised. Through those systems, the peripheral maniforlds feed the hull to charge the hull plating with electromagnetic charges and with a bit of luck, they’ll repel those particles and give them some breathing to get systems to full operational status.
