( USS ICARUS – Deck 5 – Engineering )
L’Tang: [I ASSUMED YOU WANTED IT ON.]
What in the wide galaxy made this Violacean assume they wanted the hyperdrive on when they had done absolutely everything to avoid it?
She only knew one other member of that species and he was a researcher on Gamma Tauri who always came to the Innovations in Warp conference. She wasn’t aware of the species being aggressively paranoid, but it wasn’t an impossibility either.
Perax: I know I said to take what he said skeptically, but if we don’t get that hyperwarp drive offline before it sends matter and antimatter into the intermix chamber, we’ll blow to subatomic pieces because we have broken pieces of dilithium. There isn’t enough intact to run a regular warp drive this old.
If there was skepticism here, Servi was pretty sure it was on the part of L’Tang and the other phased engineers. Her mind was boggled at how unhelpful at best and aggressive at worst they were.
It made her wonder, was it comfortable being phased? Did it feel physically ok? Could they feel anything at all? Or was it somehow so much the same that they hadn’t noticed anything for the past 100 years. Even if it was six days as L’Tang indicated, if they were incorporeal it should be more than enough time to have an existential crisis.
Heck, Servi would have had a full on mental breakdown within six minutes of being incorporeal. Never hugging her kids again or spending a lovely night exchanging foot massages with one of her husbands would be hellish.
Aurdax: [IF WE DON’T GET THE HYPERWARP DRIVE OFFLINE IT WILL SEND MATTER AND ANTIMATTER INTO THE INTERMIX CHAMBER, AND WITH THE BROKEN DILITHIUM CRYSTALS, THIS SHIP WILL EXPLODE.]
L’Tang: [I INFORMED YOU THAT THEY WERE BROKEN. THEY ARE NOT DE-CRYSTALLIZED, BUT THE ENERGY FLOW IS UNSTABLE. IN ORDER TO USE THEM WE HAD TO REROUTE POWER THROUGHOUT THE SHIP.]
Once again she called out exactly what the PADD stated, in the blankest monotone. She didn’t want anyone reading this as if she was saying it.
Shimisi: Getting into the power system, I'll decrease the energy input...
Perax: ?
Aurdax: I would have to assume that whoever or whatever is speaking to us they have an interest in self-preservation, even if they don’t care about us – or even the Icarus – the Icarus is critical to the survival of any life forms onboard.
Shimisi: I'm sure they will. I'm decreasing the energy output,... to thirty five percent
Perax: ?
Aurdax: Theoretically? Yes, I know exactly how hyperwarp works. Physically in an engineering sense? Hyperwarp functions with a massive infusion of power from the dilithium crystals poured into the subspace interference deflectors that creates the rifts. Cutting power at either end should tell the system to stop the process.
She admitted that she really didn’t want to ask the PADD again. She was tired of getting vague, misleading or argumentative responses. It made her stomach feel a bit more ill every time she typed in a message, like she was walking on eggshells with some incorporeal voice that wasn't even a voice. Just letters on a screen. But she also didn’t know how to fix it and she had no one else to ask.
Aurdax: [HOW DID THE POWER FOR THE ENGINES GET ROUTED THROUGH THE WHOLE SHIP?]
L'Tang: [AFTER WE BECAME STUCK IN THE RIFT ALL WE CARED ABOUT WAS LEAVING THE RIFT. WE REALIGNED WHAT DILITHIUM WE HAD SO THAT WE COULD CREATE A WORMHOLE EFFECT IN TANDEM WITH USING THE HYPERWARP DRIVE TO ESCAPE.]
Aurdax: Alright, basically the ran power throughout the ship to get the hyperwarp drive to create a wormhole effect so they could escape the subspace rift. And yes that does all make solid scientific sense.
Shimisi: Just what I was thinking... lowering input. I'm also trying to shutdown the deflectors, if we disconnect them, we might be able to increase the input without risk of hyperwarp activation.

S’jenes: =/\= All away teams, this is S’jenes, We have made contact with one of the apparitions. The entity identified herself as Lieutenant Junior Grade Barb Byrnes, communications officer of the Icarus. Based upon the information obtained during the exchange, we currently assess that the apparitions are phase-shifted survivors rather than residual energy phenomena. We established communication using tricorders as a localized dampening field and electromagnetic carrier waves to temporarily synchronize phases which has allowed for 32 seconds of direct communication. We are investigating ways of extending said communication and have identified a repeating pattern within the phase variance which may be key to further communication. If your teams have any relevant findings or suggestions, please advise. S'Jenes out.
She turned back to the PADD.
Aurdax: [THE GOOD NEWS IS YOU MADE IT OUT OF THE RIFT. BUT THE BAD NEWS IS SOMEHOW IT PHASE-SHIFTED ANY SURVIVING MEMBERS OF YOUR CREW]
L’Tang: [?
Lystra: =/\= That’s Great! We’ve been able to establish fairly reliable contact through PADDs and now with a Neural Interface Unit. We’ve located the Icarus’ Chief Medical Officer. We’ll try to get more information as soon as we can. Lystra out. =/\=
Shimisi: Seems they're making progress too. Doctor, see if you can talk with the sickbay teams, if they're in contact like we are, maybe we can share information. You can tell our friends we're checking with their friends in sickbay.
Aurdax: Gladly! Anything to get me out of talking to this PADD.
She sent one last message
L’Tang: [?
She hated to admit it, but she breathed a sigh of relief, placing the PADD near the monitor where the two engineers were working on a better communications system.
Shimisi: Seems I'm keeping the power stable at thirty-five. How's the hyperwarp? It has deactivated?
Perax: Response
Shimisi: We have to make the power stable for our friends on the bridge, sickbay and general life support. We'll deactivate the energy to the cargo bay and divert that to the other areas.
Perax: Response
Shimisi: =/\= Shimisi to S'Jenes =/\=
S’jenes: ::Tapped his combadge:: =/\= S’jenes here =/\=
Shimisi: =/\= We're talking with other survivors through a padd and we're trying to use a monitor to improve contact. =/\=
Shimisi: =/\= It seems so, from what I've heard, we have interactions on the bridge, sickbay, here... so it seems ship wide. =/\=
Shimisi: =/\= We have a problem with the energy. If we go over 40%, the hyperwarp tries to activate. We're working to deactivate it, but we need some time.=/\=
Aurdax: =/\= And we have confirmation that the Icarus crew specifically routed power through the ship to push enough power into the hyperwarp drive to create a wormhole that pushed them out of a subspace rift they were stuck in. Be careful and check anything you’re using for how the power is routed and re-routed =/\=
S’Jenes: =/\= ?
Perax: =/\= ?
Shimisi: =/\= Tell us what you need, we'll see if we can provide it. =/=
S’Jenes: =/\= ?
Perax: =/\= ?
((OOC – continue on if you need to here))
As the commline closed, Servi looked towards the other two engineers/
Aurdax: I should call sickbay and see what they’re using to communicate more readily. I set the PADD by the monitor to see if you can connect some sort of visuals.
Perax/Shimisi: ?
L’Tang: [?
Aurdax: I’ll let you know what I find out.
Perax/Shimisi: ?
L’Tang: [?

OOC – I’ll call sickbay next sim, this one was already getting pretty unwieldy.
